Trouble changing oil

I sprung a leak on one of the oil lines to the remote filter on my Typhoon awhile back. I put on a spin-on filter and drove it to Nats and back.

Plan A: This morning, I started to replace the remote oil lines, and ended up stripping the oil pan plug.

Plan B: I had the truck in the garage in my wife's parking spot, so decided I would try to use an oversize plug. I started to screw it in, but noticed a big chunk of metal inside the pan!

Plan C: Time to roll the truck to my side of the garage, and pull the oil pan. Four hours later, I find it's the oil pickup tube. The good news is I've never seen a drop in oil pressure or heard any noise. Seems weird it would fall off while it's parked though.

Plan D: Clean up and have a beer. I'll inspect the bearings tomorrow.

Update: I pulled the #2 main bearing cap. The bearing looks remarkably well for around 120,000 miles. The crankshaft is smooth. I cut open the filter and saw a few tiny specks of what looked like bearing material, though. I'm tempted to put it back together if #3 looks as good, then take my spare motor to the machine shop for some upgrades.

I remember a couple of times when we were nearing Bowling Green, the oil pressure would dip about 10 psi and come right back. I bet the pickup tube was loose and sucking air.

I would agree fully. No use opening a can of worms when you can start with "the spare."
