Transmission dipstick tube

Is it possible to replace or re-do the trans dipstick tube on truck with out doing much? Like disassembly...? With out getting too involved. I tried a few approaches trying to seat it and I had no luck. Right now it's not seated fully.

Have had issues with the tube seating in the actual trans port. Lots of leaking. Very ugly under neath not pretty. Actually dug out my syclone dip stick tube to look at it ( becausd everything is in boxes) and the typhoon one looks cut. Like the bracket to hold it down or in place rather was cut/bent or snapped off for ease of install. Figures right. So far almost everything I have figured out with the truck has been a whole lot of work afterwards.

Every time I mess around with the tube fluid guzzles out ( is that normal?? ) and I'm stuck with cleaning the mess up. I already dumped a few QTS of trans fluid in the past few months. I'm not a trans expert. Like I said every time I end up adjusting the tube it comes loose and I have fluid all over.

Tonite the "roar" is back.. Truck is not moving too well past 4000 rpm and really screaming 3000-35000. I don't know if its a converter again... Lock up? Or my transfer case I put in is going?

Wondering if I am low on fluid or, something went in the transmission. Its just another one of them all the sudden things that just started happening again. I really need to get the tube seated/fixed. Is there a easy button for this one?

Re: Transmission dipstick tube

Might try to install a Lokar dipstick tube. Not sure if you want to go to a "shiny street rod" kind of thing. I know when I had my 700r4 in , it was a pretty tight fit.

I'm just trying to prevent any further fluid loss. Its a real pain in the ass to get up under there. I used a pry bar to get some leverage on the lip of the bottom of tube and no go.

Like I said the bracket to attach it is cut off it appears as I can move the tube like a stick shift... Probably why its so loose.

I know the tube your talking about it looks like a piece of braided hose..? I guess that one just plugs in and flails around?? No real mounting bracket?

I guess I'll call a trans guy and see what there take is. I figured some one here worked in that area before. I find my self digging into my typhoon ( and syclone ) working all areas

I am pretty sure it can be installed without removing anything. I replaced the rubber grommit for the dipstick tube without removing anything. If the dipstick tube is all screwed up I would replace it. Probably should replace the grommit while your are at it. Worse case you might have to lower the back of the transmission. I don't remember a bunch of fluid pouring out of my transmission though. Are you check the transmission oil with the engine running and the fluid warm?

Re: Transmission dipstick tube

That's what I'm going to probably end up doing is buy a new tube so I can move forward with this leak.

Got to source one out first. Its either buy new, or find a OE take off.

First thing I actually did was look on B&M website or TCI for the tube... And grommet. Mainly was looking for grommet.

I have been under there a few times. Wheel off hard to access. Downpipe hard to see. No luck.

Usually I check the fluid when it is warm. I am just wondering if there could be to much fluid in as it pours out on level ground when disconnect (how many or who else can pull there tube out??:rotf:) I see the dip stick has a fill range, that range appears to be inside the transmission. I can't figure out if I have too much/or none at all. If I mess with the tube.. Shit will pour out all over. Seems like its just holding in by a hair. I check it but with the minor leak and the tube not seating I alywas assume its low.

I wonder if your tube is not seated all the way into the transmission. This would explain why the dip stick would 'reads normal' but it pours out when pull it out a little bit.

Yeah its a real cat and mouse game.

Pull it out for a reading. Fluid pours out.

I have lubed up the grommet with dish soap to help the tube go in. It Worked well.

Yes, if the trans dipstick tube is not bolted to the back of the engine it will move all over, and very well could work out enough to leak, as you describe. It isn't too hard to remove, as I recall. You at least have to remove the upper IC. Getting it back in, you have to first put the grommet in the transmission case, then grease up the tube and slide it all the way in till the shoulder of the dipstick tube bottoms out on the grommet. At that point the bracket should then up with the bolt hole in the bell housing.
As for the Lokar flexible dipstick tube, it does come with a bracket at the very top end that is usually mounted to the firewall.
