the tranny shifts hard
sometimes I can take the cable off pull it in and out and it will be fine for a brief time

1st to 2nd is hard
2nd to 3rd is hard
but as soon as it shifts its got a surge like theres a space somewhere
different feel in the truck

could this be mounts?

I don't think it slips

Well, how hard are you taking about. The stock trannies shift very hard, in fact harder(1-2) than any other vehicle Ive driven. If it doesnt sound like something is banging around inside, it probably OK. My truck barks its tires while driving straight...I love it :D

Have you checked your TV cable adjuster? The only thing that sounds strange is that it just started doing it for no reason. Could be a change of weather too, it will shift harder when cold.

no the rpms are fine

theres something wrong
its been doing it sence the day i got it
it bangs into 2nd and third with a surge
feels like a rear wheel drive to a front wheel drive when surging

Thats prolly just the torque steer from the AWD. Still...and metal clanking around when it shifts?

I had seen the adjuster wear out on the tv cable letting it go out of adjustment after the first wot blast. check the teeth on the back side of the adjuster and make sure they are still in good order.
