Any thoughts on why the piping on this Ty was changed?

Re: Thoughts

Sorry if that came off as a silly question. I am new to the 'turbo' scene. I have preparing to sell my 1964 Chevy II Nova, and want to replace it with a Typhoon. I have been reading things on the forum, talking with two or three members, trying to get a good understanding. I found this Ty in Craigslist a week or more ago and have been talking via email to the person. His ad read; 92 Ty, with 20,500 miles asking $10,500, clean car fax. But once I started getting pictures from him, I really didnt understand a lot of what I was looking at, and I was left scratching my head as to why it looked so altered for a vehicle with so low miles. There is one picture of the cargo area and it looks like a battery exploded! The carpet has acid burns, the plastic even looks like it has acid burns. The rear wiper is pointing straight down. The radio has been replaced with something aftermarket. The guy claims he bought it from a broker and that it came from New York and shortly after buying it he lost his job and now has to dump the Ty. He also says that it had a recent repaint, which the outside of the body looks very clean and crisp. The wheels refinished too.
Again, sorry if I asked something dumb.
Best regards,

You should probably approach this truck with caution. Buyer beware. I'd be worried about odometer rollback.

The engine bay doesn't look like it's from a 20,500 mile Ty. And $10,500 for a 20k mile Ty is pretty darn cheap. I'd bet there aren't many 20k mile Ty's that have been repainted as well.

You need to get the VIN and post it up here. Also your should run your own CarFax and AutoCheck on it. It's probably best not to take the guy's word for it. :2cents:

Re: Thoughts

I read all the old post(s), this has to be the same one. When I found the ad on Craigslist, it had the same Chicago city name. It must be the same.
Thanks everyone, I think I will steer clear of it.

I did find another Teal on Craigslist in the Mich area with 67k miles, guy is getting married and needs to shed some 'toys'.

Re: Thoughts

That was the one i think it was in new rochelle new york. When we started to tell the person who ever that was who posted it here a while back stating they were going to look at it alot of people noticed a lot of wrong things. The main one was the firewall is black. If i remember the seller said the one owner loved the teal so he had it repainted but in his ad he had it as an orginal teal and not many of them around. What an idiot.

Stay away.

Re: Thoughts

Warm Pancakes; the area code was 734.
I found it several months ago. Talked with the guy on the phone several times, and thru emails. Says he is owner number 2 and knows the original owner very well.
I havent been in touch with him for over a month and it might have sold by now?
Anything I do will hinge on the sale of my 64. My boss; or sorry wife, says no Ty without selling the Nova first.
