These ATR headers SUCK I need some heat dispersion solutions

These ATR headers suck! i absolutly hate the things. the other night the stupid things melted through my return line for the radiator, leaving me stranded and hour from the house, SOB :evil: . its an easy fix, but i am afraid that i am gonna have the same problem again, not to mentional all the spark plug wires i have gone through!

there was a little bit of shielding in there, but the heat burned right through this stuff. the sheilding that was on there looked like a peice of tin foil on top of an old rag, whatever the heck it really was is still a mystery to me?

is there some sort of wrap that i can put over the radiator hose that will keep out the heat from the crossover pipe?

any other suggestions? its such a tight fit in there and i am afraid its gonna happen again.

The headers aren't the best, but their heat retaining properties aren't one of their problems.

You need to keep EVERYTHING away from them.

Get yourself one of the flexible metal hoses for the lower radiator hose.

Fiberglass boots will keep the plug boots from burning.

The spark plug wires should NOT be near the headers at all.

The power steering lines need to be routed/bent away from the crossover as well.

Could coat the headers as well.

What kind of coolant temperatures are you seeing? Perhaps better fans are in order, or some other solutions.

have you tried earls flame guard it comes in all sizes, and or coating your headers with hpc xtreme coating?

well,

i have heard that the header coatings usually flake off after very little use, and thats not what i want.

i put firesleeve on the sparkplugs and used ceramic boots, i think that problem is solved.

i actually have one, and am gonna try it, but wanted to know if is a good idea to wrap that as well?

Any of the silver type of coatings will *not* last, I tried it.
The coatings for headers that will last (from what I've seen) is the rough Jet Hot 2000 deg coating. Make sure you weld up any leaks/holes before you coat.

You didn't tell me what your coolant readings were either...

What is your fan situation?

sorry brain-

the cooling situation is the folowing

i am running a CSI electric water pump and a new radiator. the fan is a black magic electric fan

the truck begins to heat up when sitting more than 2-3 minutes in traffic till the mid-point on the temp gauge, but then goes back down to the lower marking on the temp gauge.

I'd never coat the insides... i've seen too many materials flake on the outside, let alone inside. Crap passing through the turbo does damage, quick-like.

You could slide this over the lower rad hose and over the cross-over to get the most from it.

I also found this site which has some trick stuff that they send to you "wet" (wet blanket).
You wrap it around where you want it and it dries hard and stays put. I thought it would be good to use on the first few inches of the header primaries to help protect plug wires. It has a working temp. to 3200 deg. :eek:

OK, I finally found the one I was thinking of: http://www.motorsportspares.com/line.htm

Go down to Thermal Protection, then click on the Carbon Cloth Thermal Band-Aid link. Then select products and CCT Thermal Gaurd (how they spell it).
This place also has some trick "fire resistant" gloves for those of you competing in the spark plug change competition at the Nat's.

This is the reason i didnt get a second pair of headers when my KB ones went south
My job is mainly with trucks and i found that MAN V 10 turbo truck has insulation blankets at the headers and last tooooo long.
Extremely good quality. Ill do some research about it and keep you informed
if this works the way i think ....ILL GET NEW HEADERS :D
