Test and tune later this month locally

Decided to give this a whirl. Hopefully, chip will be in by then so I can tune with wide band.
Make or break it, I want to get some base numbers at near 3000 ft altitude. Might dig into motor afterwards and spring for L35s later this year. Time to test the newly built transmission.

Any pointers?
Will start a bit rich at 11.8 AFR.

Is 1 degree retard from the chips setting a good starting point for 18 psi?

Might want to start richer than that. Boosted engines run better around 11:1, na motors like around 13:1.

11.8:1 isn't considered to be rich with our engines.

What fuel are you planning to use? Stock timing is 14 degrees.

If possible, you probably want to get the truck a little bit dialed in on scan tool before you goto the track. If your are adjusting timing, boost and fuel, you might not have enough time to get everything done.

You will probably want to also work on your launch as well at the track. I would recommend making sure before you goto the track that you can do a boosted launch your truck. Many people find out the track the truck wither spins the rear or creep through the brakes, they find out either they have a small mechanic issue or they aren't building vacuum in the brakes before launching.

Good stuff. Gas is 91 octane. About a half tank with about 2 gallons of race gas. Stock timing, stock boost them bump it up to 17-18lbs and take out 1-2 degrees. I'll work on launching it. Shifts will happen at around 4000-4200 rpm, tentatively. Just want to get a feel for the truck. I don't expect to break into the 13s at this altitude and on the 113K mi engine. 10.9-11.1 AFR then? That seems rich. Then again, I don't want it leaning out.
Wide band TT chip is in the works.
42lbs injectors and TT chip matched to 91 octane. Stock all else.

After a point there is no reason to go richer and you would be better off lowering boost or advance, if youre running straight gas 11.2-11.5 (a couple of points richer with e10) is commonly used as a balance between power and safety, there isn't going to be any benefit in going into the 10s on 99% of street driven cars. Even if you get rid of a degree or two of knock, chances are you are negating the power made by adding that extra half psi or degree of advance.

Personally, I would aim for 11.2 to start, lower advance in boost, set boost to your 17-18psi, then readjust timing from there. At 17-18 psi, boost should make more power than increasing timing. You could lean it out, but going from 11.2 to 11.5 isn't going to gain much.

This is great info. I will try this. Thanks.

I am re checking all fasteners on prop shaft, drive shaft, wheels, rear end etc. before I go out there.
