Syclone or Volvo S60R?

Man, I haven't been on thos forum in forever! Anyways, I have a problem. I'm graduating form college at the end of the month and I got a job that's a good 50 miles away as an accountant for a CPA firm. The money is great but the drive will suck. I really don't want to move because I just bought a house about 2 years ago and I love it. I would get much less house for the same amount of money closer to where my job will be. I have a 97 Isuzu Rodeo (beater), the Sy, and my wifes 02 Explorer. I have a vehicle to put the miles on, but my concern is that I will not have time for the Sy and will neglect her. I have a ton of stuff I want to do to it, but may not have the time. My thinking was to sell the Rodeo and the Sy and get a new Volvo S60R. I have been doing research and this thing is awesome. You can't get as much for the money in any other car. I want to stay under $40,000. I own both cars outright so I could walk in with mostly cash, but will have to finance. I know I will put alot of miles on the S60R, but as an auditor I will be spending alot of time in the car so I wanted something fun (trust me the Rodeo is no blast to drive). I also have a baby due in 2 months and it would be nice to have the 4 doors, warranty, etc...

What would you do?

Syclone?
Volvo S60R?

I'd say if you have a baby on the way, that is the most important factor in this whole equasion.
IMO, a safe car is very important when you're going to be driving around with a little person. And when it comes to saftey Volvo > Syclone/Rodeo.

When the time comes I just might do that! My wife wants to stay home with the baby (I'd like her to) so I'm going to do whatever I can so she will be able to. I just don't want to have the Sy and not not give it the proper care it deserves. Right now she stays washed and parked in the garage. As is I haven't driven it in almost three weeks. I start her every other day or so, but that's no fun.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Volvo S60R is a nice car although look into the Saab Aeros too. They can be had slightly used for a good price and they are pretty fast. I love mine. Also consider an Audi S4 (B5) for a sweet ride!

Kinda off topic.....but how do you like accounting? I am thinking about going into finance and accounting...

S60R>Saab Aero. Although, if you're going used, the Saab will be considerably cheaper. If you're buying new, the Saab 9-3 Aero is about the same price as an S60R, but isn't AWD, and is much less powerful. I'd go with the Volvo. In any case, Swedish cars rule.

All you can do is try it! It's different and requires many hours of studying. I started with engineering and then switched, and found that accounting was more difficult in its own unique way. It's not so much the math like everyone thinks it is. It's keeping up with the government and all the rules and regulations placed on the accounting profession. I like it! I worked in retail and thought I knew about business. HA, boy was I wrong! Accounting gives you the best education possible about starting, closing, auditing, or making a business go public. Very cool stuff, but tons of effort required. Oh, and you'll need to get a masters to be competitive in the field (unless you are doing it for yourself). Good $$$ too

You can always sell the Sy and Rodeo and buy a Ty...
Got room for the baby, comfortable for the drive and still has some swerve for fun
If safety is your concern then go Volvo. But instead of paying 40k and financing the Volvo - Get a clean/stock Ty for around 20k and put the rest towards college for the baby and savings...
Best of both worlds.

In addition to the Harley and the Ty, we have a Volvo S80 T6. We have over 100K miles on it, and it runs awesome. We haven't had ANY serious problems as of yet (knock on wood), and there is no sign that it's going to go tits-up on us. We considered the S60 when we were living in Germany, but didn't buy the new car until we got back to the States. I kinda wish I'd have bought it while over there, so we could have picked it up in Sweden.

Regular maintenance is kind of a bitch. They have a plastic shroud that covers the bottom, and needs to be removed to access the oil pan, etc. Plus the engine takes more than six quarts of oil. Gets kind of pricey using synthetic oil. Sounds like you'll be putting as much, if not more, miles on yours than we do. Like with any car, if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

You will be happy with the Volvo if you choose to go down that road (pun intended).
