sy112.....even more horrible showing!!!!!

Well Ted and I went up to KCIR tonight and we made a couple passes before we got rained out.

First lets talk about the GOOD stuff. Ted's Ty is running outstanding. Holds pretty damn good boost for a stock truck and KR is almost nonexistent. We did some runs and recorded them on my TurboLink and I was flat-out amazed that a 106,xxx runs so well. Plus he had pretty good times at the track. I believe a 14.4 and a 14.3. Correct me if I'm wrong Ted. He had pretty decent 60' times also. I'm sure Ted can feel you in on all the details.

Now for the BAD stuff. My Sy was running extremely poor. On my first pass(first staging in a sy) I had a 2.2 60' and ran 15.026 at 92 mph. I only had a chance to build 3lbs of boost on launch cause Ted beat me to stage :x So I figure the next run I will not really "race" anyone and just build boost like I should and try to get a decent run. Mind you I never looked at my first run on TurboLink(stupid.....I know). So I go up to stage and I am waiting on the other car to stage and the next thing I know the tree is going down. So in a frantic hurry I smash the brake and stab the gas. Talk about a violent jerking motion. Well as I feel the boost building I actually feel my rears(315/17's) start to brake lose. So I let off the brake to try not to f*ck up my transfer case and off I go. Well I can definately feel something isn't up to par and as I look up to the boost gauge I am running only 10lbs of boost. Well that run netted me a whopping 17.xxx at 89 mph. I HAVE DISGRACED US ALL.

Well I pull back into the staging lanes to try to figure out what the f*ck happened. As I'm in the staging lanes I run into Darren Grahm from the boards and we start to BS. When we pop the hood I find a peice of the fan shroud laying on my intake. You see apparantly that boost build broke a motor mount and that chewed up my fan shroud. After some inspection we found that luckily that was the only thing damaged.

So now I am home licking my wounds after a rather botched night of racing. I reviewed the runs that a friend of Ted's recorded on my camera and on the second run you can actually see a peice of my fan shroud fall to the track right as I launch.

All in all I guess this is a fairly blunt intro to the actual SyTy world, not the dream I have been living in  Seriously, I had a ton of fun, and got to finally meet some other people from the board. The broken motor mount is ok actually cause I need to upgrade anyway, won't be to bad when I am installing a PTE kit. Needless to say sy112 is hanging up the spurs for a little bit so we can regroup and come back fighting!!!!!!!!!

You bringing the Ty to the Nats now Rudy? Can't wait to see you run with the 60 after how stout your truck was with stocker.

make sure you carfully inspect the crossover pipe as when this happened to me it cut a hole in the pipe, sent pieces into the turbo and then proceded to destroy the turbo.. that could be your boost problem

I have gotten a lot of the KR issues rresolved. When I got the truck, it was having KR past 12* and went uncontrollable so we heard audible. After the basic tune-up(I used MSD wires) and checked my timing(it was 2* advanced) I finally got it to where it is staying below 4-5* with minimal spikes on 92 octane. I am planning on changing the fuel filter pretty soon, mabe that will get it down some more. Also I have pieced in the vaccum lines but have ordered the kit so I can be sure everything is good. I was planning on buying a piston stop just to double check the timing.

I have found out also that I am having some IC problems. My IAT's are kinda high from what I'm told. They sit around 140-145*. I was told they should maybe be only 30* above ambient. What I was wondering is that I am not using the Ultimate until I get the KR lined out, so my EGR is still enabled. Could this be causing my abnormally high IAT's? At the start of my run i was right a 140* at the tail end I had went up to 160*.

I have an aux pump mounted on the fender well but it is actually pumping into the stock pump which is also runnning. Weird I know but that is the way it was plumbed when I got it and I haven't changed anything yet. I think my next plan of attack as far as IC goes is to take the stocker out and try to squeeze the aux pump in its place. Hoping maybe it's just the stocker restricting flow.

I do have the SMC ALky kit on the way, but I want to get as much KR gone as I can before I bolt that on. Hopefully changing the fuel filter, fixing IAT's problems, double checking timing, and replacing vaccum lines will almost eliminate my knock. Other than that I am out of ideas as far as knock is concerned.

Probably will just use a tie down as a motor mount until I get these issues lined out. Then I plan on replacing the motor mounts when I install my PTE 60 kit, and doing my Alky kit at the same time also. Hopefully this will all get done before the Nats.

Thanks for the advice, I am going to inspect it right after I eat some breakfast  Only had a chance to look at it in the dark last night.

Don,
Let me know when you start working on your truck i would be happy to give you a hand and loan you a few useful tools like a floor jack. I actually have 2 floor jacks around my garage so you could use one for a while. But seriously give me a call when you are working on it anytime night or day, I would just like to dig into to these motors more and learn as much as i can about them so when i need to dig into mine i will know more about what i am doing. I only have a week left in school and has long has i am not working i can help you out. If i am at work feel free to come say hi since you live less than a 1/2 mile away.

Thanks Ted, I could definately use the extra hands around here when it comes to all of this.

I looked a little harder this afternoon and the only damage I have is to the fan shroud. Not a scratch on the crossover 8)

Like I said, I got a floor jack but it is sitting in Arkansas and I haven't gone back down to get. Looks like I'll have to suck it up and buy me another plus some other jack stands.

Who knows, when I get the PTE kit in maybe you and Darren could come over and we make a weekend thing out of it. Beer is on me!!! Hell anyone else in the area for that matter.

My question for everyone is, I have noticed a exhaust leak starting to happen. Could this be the culprit for the low boost on my run? I am using the grainger valve setup so I know it has nothing to do with my solenoid. Anyway I guess that will get fixed along with the rest.

Suddenly all the money I have saved up just doesn't look like enough :D
