Sy vs new gt

I was on my way back from my mom and dads house yesterday and stopped to wash the truck. Luck would have it there was a kid and his girl washing his new gt. It was silver and didnt even have plates on it yet. I pull up and get out the kid looks at the truck and said nice s-10 so I look at his car and asked if it was verry fast being a ford and such. He replies that its a gt and would whoop my little truck with verry little effort. I snickered and said I dont thing he would like to try. To this he resopnd for $20 he would be kind enough to give me a lesson. I said sure but you can save yourself the embarssment and give the money to me now He said to follow him to the spot they race at and his girl would flag us. We get there and she gets out and walks by to flag us. I told her to count to three after he honked them drop. She said she would. The poor kid didnt even heat the tires up. He honked she counted to three and droped her arms. Well with the new converter I left on about 6-7 psi didnt spin a tire. This thing runs so much stronger now than it did with the old converter. By the time he left I was about 2-3 cars out. He tried till about the 3-400 feet then gave up. By this time I was about 6-7 cars out on him and gaining. I turned around and came back to them and got out to get the money and the girl asked what was that sound your truck made? I said it was the turbo and the kid said you didnt tell me that thing had a turbo on it. I looked him dead in the eyes and said you didnt ask did you. I'll take the money now please. He looked at her and shruged his shoulders and said give it to him. I told him next time do a little more planning before you race some one for money. In hindsight I feel bad for taking his money I meen I could have pulled a gun on him been about the same outcome.

I assume youre talking about a Mustang GT. I cant get any of those guys to race me. Nice kill though, I wouldnt feel bad at all for taking his money, over confidence can be costly.

What does your Sy run in the quarter and what does a GT typically run?

I have a typhoon, so I have about .4 behind you already stock to stock... Just wondering if the Ty could do the same.

New GT's run the 1/4 in 13.5 according to MT. Stock Ty in proper tune -13.7 -14.1.

thats sort of depressing

Yes, but it's not a totally lost cause. At a casual stoplite encounter you will likely not go a full 1/4 mi. You can still out-60 foot him, and claim victory before his superior top end comes into play. At least that's what I'm telling myself

SyTyless......for now!
the thing the Syty's have on thier side is traction. most time is used up in wheelspin waiting for a good hookup, and by that time a Sy or a Ty is already going going gone. the 1/4 mile times are usually measured with traction control turned on (if equipped) and the driver (usually a pro) tries to get as little wheelspin as possible to ensure a good launch. but theres no denying that Syty's run like a raped ape!! :2cents:

Nice kill  ! I agree, that was cool of him to pay up and not come up with some excuse... I got to tangle with a GT late last summer, it was decently quick on the street. Only put about four lengths on him out of the hole and that's where he stayed: http://www.syty.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=40054&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 He didn't pull on me and I didn't walk him any. That encounter was in "street trim" that is, 93 octane and T1 16 psi. Never ran at the track to see what that nets me ET wise. But, I would prolly guess a high 12 or low 13. Unless your truck is decently quick, one could give you a run for the money if the owner knows how to drive.

Curious, I did a quick web search for test results. Most sites just had estimated numbers:
Motor Trend:
ESTIMATED PERFORMANCE DATA
0-60 mph, sec 5.2
1/4 mile, sec @ mph 13.90 @ 104.00

http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com (maybe not the most impartial source...)
"Ford refused our request to get a car for instrumented drag testing until later in the year, but we'll tell you that this car feels stout. Our best guess is that with a power-to-weight ratio similar to the '03-04 Mach 1, good racers should be able to get the new GT into the mid- to low-13s at over 103 mph at the strip in bone-stock trim."

Motor Week *called* it a road test, but included no evidence they did any real calibrated testing. They cite 0-60 in 5 sec in their headline, but not in the text.

Edmunds actually had some test numbers:
"We managed to eek out a few high-5-second 0-60 times, but we have a feeling that if the engine was allowed a break-in period and the weather cooled off a bit, we could probably get it into the mid-5s."

So, the jury is still out as far as I can tell. It's possible a good-running Ty or slightly modded one might run with a stock GT for a full 1/4 mi, and certainly has a shot from 0-60. We won't really know until folks start showing up at the track with them. Even then it might be hard to tell if it's truly stock. When Ford DOES supply cars for instrumented mag testing, you can bet they'll be 'massaged'.

I've heard mid 5 sec. for 0-60 and mi-high 13's in the 1/4. That's also with a pretty good driver, which your average joe is not. I've seen 1 new GT at the track and he was pulling off high 12's so I'm not sure what he had done to it. On the street a Ty should take care of it with a good launch.

I have the lastest MT mag right here and the 05 gt runs the quarter in 13.5 @ 103.6.

i've always like mustangs and still like certain ones....still own my 00 gt...there are just too many of them to really appreciate every one you see....i can also say by experience that the 5.0 foxbody is overall a better car than the 00 gt by a longshot....have no idea about the 05, but a friend of mine swears it's a bad ass car in every way....he just bought one but i haven't checked it out yet....

My truck runs 12.00's 1/4 mile but we didnt run 1/4 the holeshot was enough for him to see it was a lost cause. I've got a te44 and 3200 stall with the 50# ulti But this was on low boost onlt 13-14 psi

I agree with matt the new mustangs rock. Just havent found a fast one yet.
