Suspension Work on Ty

I need some suspension work on my Ty. I bought the Truck to fix and drive through the winter. I don't want to sink a ton of money into it but I don't want to half ass it.


The truck has almost 160K miles on it mostly highway, but still a lot of miles. The truck maintenance history appear to be oil changes and major repairs when driving it was seriously affected. When I bought it , Someone forgot to tight down the I/C to TB hose so the truck couldn't make boost. He never bother to have it checked out...the owner told me the turbo hadn't 'worked' for a couple of years. It works fine for me

The shocks apear to be dead, something clunks in the front and rear (probably shocks) and truck jerks a little the right when you off the gas after WOT.

So what usually goes on high mileage trucks, everything. Are control arm bushings common? (it would be a lot easier to skip those) Wheel Bearings? Tie Rods? What are the most economical parts to rebuild the suspension with? What the best shocks for cheap money? Any penny wise suggestions. I don't want to replace the ball joint and save a few $ to find out the damn suspension still clunks over every little bump.

http://www.p-s-t.com/fektvpg.html here is a good idea, yes bushings go bad after 10 years, and the ball joints tend to make clunking noises when they are shot too. if you visit shox.com you can get a full set of bilstein socks for about 200, thats the cheapest i have seen. http://www.rkkustom.com/shop/Energy3.html replacing the leaf spring bushings is also a good idea, not to mention torsion bar mounts http://www.carparts.com/parts/sampl...0&vehicleid=54368&catalogid=&partnum=NONE&dc= any other suggestions guys?

Yeppers... Just spent a ton on parts and labor... give me a day or so and I'll go back through the list of moog part numbers and the amount you'll need of each...

Someone gave me a set used rear air shocks, he claims they are good. One of them always expands itself to the full open position and the other one just stay though it does open and close. Does this mean one of them is shot?

I can't believe someone let a Sy get that way...if ya wanna get rid of it cheap let me know....I'll put it back together .....I would go ahead and replace everything if I were you, it's the only way to for sure fix a problem on a truck that beat up

Oh yeah and that shock's definitly bad if it doesn't extend when you push it in....they should be fairly hard to collapse and extend on their own

Ok here are those Moog Part Numbers and prices as purchased from carparts.com... Also listed are how many of each part number are required for replacement... So example if only one of K6418 is required then ordering one of that part number will contain 4 bushings for upper control arms.... If ordering K6283.. then only 2 bushings are included hence you will need to order two of that part number ... etc...

Upper Control arm bushings:

K6418 - (Only one required) - provides additional support for steering $52.91

or you can get

K6283 - (need to order two) - stock type upper control arm bushings - $17.50



Lower Control arm bushings:

K6333 - (need to order two) - $15.60



Leaf Spring bushings:

SB335 - (need to order six total.. includes bushings for shackles) - $7.35



Torsion Bar mount:

K6485 - (problem solver mount - two are required) - $24.18
this problem solver will cut down on installation time...
