Super Over Boost Problems...

Im having a little problem and i was wondering if anybody has had this problem before. my ty is stock except for an afpr and larger fuel pump and a mechanical boost gauge. i was logging a few runs on data master because i was throwing a dtc code. i was quite suprised to see my datamaster reading 24.4 psi of boost, not even thinkng to look at my gauge *duh* i checked it out and it also is reading 24 psi. i checked all my vacuum lines and they are ok and when i roll into full throttle instead of punching it i only hit 15psi so i know the waste gate is working. not sure what could be the problem, any input would be great. if you need more info on whats goin on pm me and ill give you the full details

My waste gate wasn't working properly at all and thats how my brother blew the first engine....shattered a piston. To my knowledge mine is still stock and I was having problems with detonation. My brother just retarded the timing a lil bit and it seemed to help. Of course since I'm not that mechanically inclined I could be talking out my arse...lol...good luck with that.

yeah the data master is setup for 2 bar, but even if it werent my mechanical gauge still is reading 24 psi. im kinda confused as to why the 2bar is reading 24.4 . the datamaster and my boost gauge are both prety much syncronized with eachoter and reading the boost.

You have your wastegate rod adjusted too tight? This will cause a huge boost spike.

You want to pull the inner fenderwell, and pull the actuator rod off the wastegate arm and look through the eyelet. You should see half of the wastegate arm........and have to pull out on the actuator rod to fit it over the wastegate arm. If you took the rod off and you had to pull it very hard to get it back over the wastegate arm, then your setting yourself up for overboost. Every truck needs to have this checked, because it affects the speed your turbo will spool up as well. If its too loose, you'll have slow spool.

This is what your looking for....

Then check the vac lines going to your boost solenoid. If one has cracked or fallen off you will get severe overboost as well. Look closely at the solenoid, and make sure the lines are in place.

BTW, I always use race gas when I'm trying to chase down boost control issues, just to be on the safe side.

I agree. If you have the original vacuum line, they really need to be replaced (unless you have super low miles) they probably leak. Ar you hitting fuel cut form overboosting? If not, I would guess you have an aftermarket chip.

i have the stock chip in, i had a stg ultimant chip in for alittle while but i believe it had a programing error, so its on its way back to be reprogramed. i will check that rod, but ive never had it off before. i checked the vaccum lines and replaced 2 because they were cracked, i figured that was the problem but it did not fix my overboost. thanks for the input! i will give that rod a shot.
