Be aware that gutting/removing the cat on a stock truck is likely to lead to boost control problems. Some seem to do ok without it, but many have problems...

I've got no cat or muffler and it is rather loud....when going wot it is difficult to hear the radio, and just cruising around it can be hard to carry a conversation....
But, it is nice hearing the turbo spool through the exhaust and I can rattle pictures in the room over the garage

The one way to get away from it is to always stay in the gas Maintaining 70 for a couple hours gets a little tiring - plus I have NO radio. I do love the sound of it - if I was driving the Saturn everyday without a radio - I'd be going nutz. At least I have a decent exhaust sound to listen to

I cut the muffler off my ty. It's really not that much louder, kinda has a little more bark to it.

Would the boost control problems stem from a lack of backpressure (no cat or muffler)? I thought turbo systems strive in those conditions. Would an external wastegate give me solid boost control...as you can tell I'm leaning towards a straight pipe but only if it's not gonna hurt performance...a little more rumble wouldn't hurt either!

Yes, the stock wastegate setup is questionable even on a stock truck. With next to nothing for backpressure, it spools up faster than the wastegate can react. If you get an adequate wastegate setup, you should be fine.
