you could run a filter, the kind that looks like a fuel filter, but made for oil lines, for your turbo and then if you ever chew a bearing you dont have to worry about getting metal in the turbo

fine for oil, but the compressor blades are for air......

anyone make a filter between the manifolds and the turbo? prob impractical but would save a few turbos when people lose rings and stuff......

anyhone heard of anything like that?

Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice

Just wanted to update this thread since a lot has been going on. Turns out the stock motor was perfectly fine, which I kinda expected. Basically, I ran the 60-1 turbos too hard with excessive boost and no BOV. Anyway, the stock motor is out and that's all in the past now. I'm looking ahead and shooting for 10s...I want this truck done, once and for all. All new parts are paid for in full and the truck will be running again by springtime  Here is the new setup:

-RPM Street Terror Motor (Stock block filled, .030 over, 4-bolt mains, stock nitrided crank, JE 9:1 Extreme Duties, Oliver H-Beam rods, ported and polished Vortecs & upper/lower intakes, ATI SFI race damper, Pioneer SFI race flexplate, Edelbrock double-roller timing chain, etc.)
-Precision PT-72GTQ DBB turbo w/polished cover, ceramic-coated turbine housing
-RPM SS headers, ceramic-coated
-RPM A2A Intercooler
-Tial 50mm BOV
-RPM 3" downpipe (coated), ITS minigate, and 3" cat converter
-ATR 3" cat back exhaust
-Custom Nolan cam and tuning
-Modded stock ECM w/75# low-impedance injectors
-Dual in-tank Walbro 255HP pumps w/upgraded lines + MSD 2350 voltage booster
-Razor progressive Methanol injection system
-Ported stock throttle body to 52mm
-MSD Pro Billet distributor and Blaster coil
-Edelbrock polished aluminum water pump + billet specialties t-stat housing
-PowerMaster 200A chrome alternator + Optima red top
-RPM Race 700R4 w/custom TCS billet 9/11 converter, dual coolers, deep pan, aux filter
-CBR Battle Bars
-Gilbert propshaft
-Ramchargers dual-electric fans
-ZQ8 steering gear
-PLX R500 WBO2 computer
-Blitz SBCid II EBC

The truck also has a ton of other safety, audio, and cosmetic mods, but these are the performance-related components. Will post pics as things start coming together.

I have an EGT probe in the downpipe and monitor EGTs with the PLX R500. I never saw temps over 1100F...it's usually below 1000F, even when pushing it hard. I keep the WOT AFRs between 11.5 and 12.1. With alky spray, it drops down into the low 11s and 10s. Nolan is going to help me tune it this time and I'm going with straight Methanol from now on.

Just curious, how much did you spend on all of that? I just got a white ty with no motor/turbo and trans. Not sure what I want to do yet.

Well, I paid $13.5K for the truck when I bought it all original with 40K miles. I have ~$55K invested in the truck now, but I didn't buy it as an investment and will never sell it, so it's worth it to me. There are much easier and cheaper vehicles to make go fast, but there's something special about having a truck that will smoke just about anything on the street, plus it's unique. I noticed Syclones are selling for around $10K now...I doubt if they will ever go back up in value :-(
