i have had starting problems with the truck since i bought it. the truck has never clicked. when i start the truck for the first couple of times it does just fine. the more i start it the harder it gets to start. it almost seems like i am running out of batt power except all of the accesories turn on. everytime bogging down more and more. is this an electrical problem or is it the purple wire problem? when i was in lawrence with gabe, jim, and norman we drove my truck around and it never even hesitated(thats no suprise). do i need the hot shot relay or the ford remote relay or just change the purple wire out. i have searched this and none of the topics seem to sound like the prob;em that i have. by the way the truck is startin ok right now so no emergency like last time thanks.

Hi Mike,

My impression is it's the starter.

Bdubb has good advice. Put a voltmeter on it when cranking. It shouldn't drop below 10 volts. If it does, the battery is suspect. You can't make a real determination until checking connections and starter current draw, though.

the purple wire only tells starter to work, and to engage gear into flexplate.

If you have issues with speed of starter, but it is engaging fine, it isn't purple wire issue. As above, it is either battery or starter itself.

Ministarter isn't gonna fix your problem. Check the positive battery cable ends. Previous owner of mine had a battery explode. He Replaced the battery but the acid ate up the positive cable and the nut/bolt thingy that goes into the battery. Looked like an hour glass after the acid ate it. Make sure connections are tight and clean and you have a fresh battery. Trying to start a car with a dead battery over and over again will cause "alternator death". Does something to the rectifier bridge in it and kills it. Check the grounds for the engine and the battery. Make sure the ground from the engine block to the firewall is still there.

If you just want to put in a ministarter that's different. But if you are trying to fix your problem, ministarter isn't the solution. If it were mine, I'd fix it first, then replace the starter so as not to damage the new one.
