Do I need to remove the plastic button you push. If so , how?

Yes, you need to remove the plastic knob.
I've removed mine before, you just need to grab it with your fingers, or get something small under it and pull up gently....I have a small tool with an 'L' shaped hook, in it, or I'm sure you could use a paperclip and bend the tip (1/8" or so) and pull up. It should come out pretty easily.
Then you'll see the c-clip that everyone is talking about.
