Re: Requirements
List the specs of the laptop and we'll see if you can properly run the software. Pushing the hardware is no problem with any system this side of the ENIAC, but the software could be. If you're running a modern OS (98SE, XP, etc...) you should have no problem with TunerPro. Here's the requirements for it:
Minimum:Intel Pentium® 100 mhz or equivelant for TunerPro Free
Intel Pentium 200 mhz or equivelant for TunerPro RT
16 MB RAM
Microsoft Windows® 98 (Win95 will not run TunerPro)
800 x 600 minimum supported resolution
Recommended:Pentium 233 mhz or better
32 MB RAM or better
Win98 SE or better
1024 x 768 or better resolution capability
* for the ALDL mon/log feature in RT, a 300 mhz or better is recommended
As far as the hardware, you mention other emulator companies. Which ones are you comparing? Moates Ostrich/AutoProm and Transtronics ROMulator? Both work great, but the Ostrich has become the go to for most of us. Mostly due to the size of the Ostrich, it's ease of use, and the close relationship of Craig and Mark (for future changes/support).
The stock chip will be required in a piggyback manner if you use a Moates G3 adapter (or similar). If using a modified stock chip, then you'll plug the emulation header directly into the newly soldered-in socket.
Does that answer your questions? I'm not sure what you meant by usage of the stock chip, but it's function is much reduced when emulating. Ask away if you need more clarity.
