Quickest ¼ mile production truck?

What did the stock El Camino LS6 run in the ¼ mile? A friend says that the quickest 100% stock Sy he's seen was about 13.4, and the Chevelle LS6 runs 13.2-13.3 stock. He's certain that the El Camino would hook better than the Chevelle, but he's never seen an El Camino LS6 run at the track. I've never seen the El Camino LS6 mentioned on this board, and I figure that I would have if it was actually quicker than the Syclone. What's the deal with this El Camino? Is it quicker than a Sy in the ¼ mile?

I'm not sure what the camino's run in the quarter. I always thought that the new F-150 Lightnings were the fastest production truck or at least so they claim.

I did some checking and the LS6 Chevelle ran a 13.12@107.01. I couldn't find a time for the El Camino's but I image that they are a tic or two slower than the Chevelle's.

how is an El Camino going to hook BETTER than a Chevelle? The El Camino has NO WEIGHT in the back, trust me (look at sig)!!! In conclusion, your friend is a moron.

There is a "slight" possability the 1970 El Camino SS LS6 is faster than a Syclone stock vs stock, the only reason I have never mentioned it was the fact that there is always that person (or group of people) who will bitch till the cows come home that the El Camino is a car. I can agree on some points of that, but my registration fees stop me from totally agreeing :)

Either way, Ill look through all my El Camino stuff and see if I can find stock production times.

"Fastest" = highest top speed. *Not* fastest 0-60 or fastest quarter mile (these would be "quickest").

thats your definition. I agree with the 0-60, but not the quarter mile definition.

Not my definition - common usage. Or common mis-usage. Fastest means highest top speed attainable, limited either by power (and gearing, aerodynamics, etc.) or by speed limiter. Quickest means fastest accelerating. As acceleration continues throughout the 1/4 mile "quickest" might be used for lowest elapsed time or "fastest 1/4 mile" for highest trap speed.

Really just semantics anyway.

I didn't get it either, but he's owned El Caminos and Chevelles with the same build-up and says that the Camino was always quicker in the ¼ and always got better traction.

el camino is in no way a truck! oh boy, it has a bed - just a different design feature for a car. first off, there is no seam between the bed and cab...a feature that has been a staple in trucks as long as i can remember. two, the el camino is built off the cehevelle platform (the new generation concepts based of the impala mind you), all of which are CARS. its like me comparing the typhoons to vibes, matrices, protege 5s, etc. just because the design cues are the same doesnt make the vehicle type the same.

viva la syclone, still reigning quickness champion (porsche STILL cant do it!) :p

I agree syclone are the (Quickest) not fastest truck . Has anyone heard the syclone is THE KING OF RED LIGHTS!!!I have.... 12 yrs and still on top and if any truck ever takes over, the syclone will never be forgotten .... if anyone still doesnt believe it buy one (if u can find one) or find one and take a ride ... best rush of blood ever!!! yeah !!!
and by the way el caminos r not trucks. excellent explanation typhoon1588

Serious about performance
I never felt the "fastest" title amounted to much. Who spends any significant amount of time over 130 MPH? We don't have an Autobahn in the USA... maybe those Montana people or whatever are excluded but. Who really cares if it goes 135 or 145? (And the MYTH that stock SyTys can only go 126 is a bunch of bull-washing garbage cause I've had mine to 133 with some RPMS still left to go in OD, on STOCK chip.)

When someone says "how fast is it?", what they REALLY wanna know is, can anything else beat it from a dead stop in an acceleration contest? Especially if they meet at a red light. Arguing that the Lightning or whatever is "faster" is a bogus technicality game played by people who are sour about not really being the fastest (common usage of "fastest"). But I guess I'm biased since I am a Syclone owner and GM guy.. ;)

PS: It's kinda like arguring MPH over ET. Say your Syclone runs 13.4 @ 98 MPH but someone else runs 13.8 @ 102 MPH. They say they are "faster". But to a crowd of public opinion, you all know that's crap because in a drag race, the Syclone is gonna get there first. It doesn't matter if the other car runs 13.8 @ 250MPH. Truck crosses the line first = Winner. End of story.

But the El Camino will haul more than a Syclone (or any S-series for that matter) :p

if the new dodge ever comes out our ruling of the fastest truck will be over. (if the person driving can manage to drive a 500hp rwd manual trans truck)

pickup truck: n. A light truck with an open body and low sides.

That's a pretty generic definition but it's the one I found in the dictionary.

I wouldn't go by what DMV says because according to them my 3/4 ton Suburban on 35s was a station wagon.
Also the new Avalange doesn't have a separate "bed" but I would still consider it a truck.

The El Camino...I don't know what I would call it. At the least I would say it's ALMOST a truck. :D

dodge has annopunced the sst will not be built they dont belive the market is strong enough to support the price 45k

well that "SST" has been on the road since 1997 i think? But I think you meant the SRT10 either way, I dont know where you read/heard that, but its bullshit.

"Official sources at Chrysler confirm that this truck will definitely be built."

http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/b062502.htm

they arent even annoucing the price till Febuary, so that $45 is unconfirmed yet, hate to break it to ya.

"The next big show will be Chicago in February. Dodge will use that show to finally announce pricing for the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and to unveil the Quad Cab version of the Viper V10 powered Ram."

god damn i cant wait for that thing. since i first set eyes on it at ny auto show last year i have been eagerly anticipating its production. oh well, the syclones gonna get beat, and beat bad. thats what records are for - to be broken.

but honestly, if i had the resources, i wouldnt think twice about dropping $45k on a 500hp, totally mean looking truck proven to run high 12s at the track with stock 24" rims! what more can be said?

oh, and about sellability, the caddy xlr is being preordered and bought like crazy, and that thing is a CADILLAC CONVERTIBLE that they want $80k+ for. Why WOULDN'T 45k be worth it for the srt10!
