When taking apart my truck I managed to rip the boot on my propshaft is there anything I can do without having to rebuild the whole shaft? The truck only has 18,000 miles on so I am hoping that I am not going to have to spend 500 buck on a new one? I tried ordering the gm propshaft repair kit but it is discontinued? Can anyone help.

I thought someone said once that you could use a regular CV joint replacement boot, hooked to the outside of the joint. Local driveshaft shops (also check tranny and bigrig places) can rebuild the joint, so they should have the stuff to replace the boot, though I don't have any firsthand experience to tell exactly what they can or can't do. If it's just the rubber boot, it should be pretty cheap and easy. While you're doing that, you might want to have them check both joints just to be safe... The rear joint can only be greased properly with the shaft out of the truck, so it frequently doesn't get lubed, which obviously isn't good.
