Re: Proper fuel sending unit
The "VPX" or "SEM" and there are several other are Broadcast Code or SPO Code. These codes identify the part's configuration so the assembly line worker selects the correct part for the particular vehicle.
For Syclone, the differences are the line fittings and DIAMETER. The high pressure sender has nut and o-ring fittings, and is 5/16" diameter. This Sender was first used on Syclone in 1991, but was also used for the L35 beginning in 1992. The low pressure sender used for TBI has slip-on fittings, and a 3/8" diameter feed line.
Same deal for Typhoon, 2 different senders, but they are different configurations because the Utilitiy body fuel tank is different than the pick-up's. (Disclaimer: I don't recall from memory whether the 13 gal pick-up tank sender is different from the 20 gallon. Doesn't concern too many peeps anyway.)
So 4 different senders for the SyTy years' 20 gal tanks.
There was a good thread a few years ago that had Spectra P/N's, pics and descriptions of the different senders. And the different SPO codes for the same sender.
