Painted Vortec Valve Covers?

I have the plastic Vortec valve covers and plan to keep them with the new motor since they are light and will supposedly clear the Comp Pro-Magnum 1.6 roller tip rockers. I found this pic of these valve covers in silver and I'm curious whether these were painted or they came this way? If they were painted, anyone know what sort of plastic prep is needed and what paint was used? I really like the way these look!

I got comp pro magnum 1.52 rockers and the vortec covers did not fit but the stockers did.

they will not fit those rocker arms. you can buy spacers for them to make them fit, but they are pricey. i would use a nice pair of stockers or buy some sheet metal ones.

the plastic covers will fit with the roller tip magnums from comp but not the full rollers.

I ordered the roller tip rockers just for that reason. I guess I'll find out if they clear or not after I mock it up. So does anyone know if those covers were painted or they came silver like that?

No problem, if you want the "vortec" lettering to be a different color use water based testors model paint and a hypodermic needle works well

Do you happen to know the part numbers for the SEM products that were used to paint these? I found some websites that sell their paint and prep products, but there's a myriad of choices and it's a bit overwhelming.

Re: Painted Vortec Valve Covers?

sem plastic prep, and color of choice , I used pumice based hand cleaner to clean them to reove traces of oil, I tend to over prep things so your results may vary ,

step one
power wash with simple green
step 2
soak covers in straight thinner to loosen all oil ands grease
step 3 wash again
step 4 wash with pumice based hand cleaner/ dry hair dryer works well
step 5
sand smooth (optional) and im goofy
step 6
paint with plastic prep allow to dry or flash
step 7
paint color of choice
step 7 paint vortec leters

I would post pictures of mine but I sold them when I changed heads

They'll clear, you will have to use a grinder to massage some of the webs inside the valve covers. About 5 minutes worth of work.

Right on man, thanks for the help. Those will look sick with painted letters, like the plenum.
