Ok i need some help. Idle problems

Ok here goes. I have searched on here and read a million posts and drank many beers thanks to ed's posts. :D but my problem is still here and seems to be getting worse. My truck runs perfect until fully warmed up and then the idle hunts from 625-950. If i give it a quick tap on the gas pedal and let go it stalls. If i try to restart it right away it doesn't start. I assume it's rich? I can't use the s terms on dm because it does not work right on my truck for some reason. I had the fp set at 50 and it ran great for a day or two and then all hell broke loose. I had to double foot it home. I then lowered it to 47 and it was good for a day or two until you guessed it all hell broke loose. When i am driving around and come up to a light it can't control the idle. When the car downshifts for the light or whatever the idle drops down to like 500 and then up to 900 very rapidly back and forth. It seems like it's trying to corret it's self but is changing so dramatically, 96% of the time it can't recover and then just dies while i'm moving. I have new wires, cap, rotor, plugs gapped correctly, fuel filter, walbro, vac lines, pcv, iac adjusted to 32, coolent temp sensor, new 50lb pte's, intakes cleaned, perfect compression, no oil consumption, and not a clue as to why it's like this. I also metered the coil wich checked out good. I have dm files if it helps. I am currently waiting for my 2 bar map to get here so i can try the pitbull chip and the stocker to see if it helps only idling of course. The only thing left is the distributer. I don't know how to time a car so i am skeptical to mess with it. :-?

If the timing is off it will make it act like that, I'd check that out. FWIW I changed my dying battery the other day with an optima and the truck idles better than it ever did, which kinda surprised me.

You mentioned u have the 50# injects, so are you running a 50 chip with it? you said ultimate in sig. so is that the 50# version?

also have you check from end to end your fuel lines for kinks...happens sometimes...

is everything tightened up on the FPR?

ok it has a new battery to (die hard gold), and the timing was checked 3 times by doing a tdc check. Yes i am running a 50 chip. I have not checked the afpr for leaks. I will do it today. Do i just pump some air into the vac line? How much should it hold?

wouldnt put more than 20-24psi to it. I have a kb afpr and I could blow through a piece of vac hose and get a leak! It was leaking around the threads where the adjusting screw was.

Man another bad idle post. cool

Im salavating and drooling all over my desk. :D

Before you cahnge anything. check to see if your fp is exactly where you set it last time.

I found mine would change from day to day where it had been set to.

Now look at your afpr. Is the bottom black, or is the bottom black and the top black also. If so i would bet if you take a mirror and look at the side facing the fan blower, you will see its a bosch unit with the top chopped. And then a new cover with an adjusting stud sticking up. if its a modified bosch. then there is no seal were the adusting screw passes thru the upper body. Mine leaked here. the billet has a visible seal around the stud.
Get a billet unit from pte. or mike at arwhatever.com. The link is here on the site under the links on the 1st page as you enter.

You might also see the number ending in237 if its a chopped bosch.
This might not be the problem. wasnt in my idle saga case but it will help.

I still gotta change my positive cable. Maybe thats it on mine.
i gotta go, my desk is a friggin mess with all this drool all over it.

If you don't have any vac leaks, your problem sounds a LOT like a posting I saw that ended up being a bad pick up coil in the distributer. It must be disassembled and reassembled to get to it.

The fp regulator that i have is the one that ed speaks of. I will also check my fp to see if it changed itself. The pickup is what i am worried about. I don't know how to time a car so i was saving that for a last resort thing. So being that i have the pos afpr should i even bother testing it with vac?

Test the whole system using the How To section on the BB here. It will show every leak you have.
Repair all the leaks you find, replace the AFPR if it leaks, then worry about the pickup coil.
Something you may find is that the adjustment you did to the throttle blades may need "undone" if you find and repair some leaks.

blake, the entire vac system was replaced and tested via the snap on smoke machine. There are no leaks present.

Check your timing with the timing connector(tan connector under the ecm)disconnected and see if your timing bounces all over the place. That what mine does unless it is advanced slightly.
My pickup coil is almost done.
Timing gun costs about $30 unless you know someone that has one

fwiw, the snap on smoke machine didnt smoke the leak on my afpr. But a mity vac on it, vac to 20hg, took 20 seconds to drop to zero.

Im not saying thats the problem, only salavating and spitting all over my monitor typing this. Hope you find and post when you get it.

i think what i will do ed is just replace the pos with a new fpr from one of the stores you suggested. If you guys say it's junk than i won't even bother with it.

i was thinking about soemthing. Where the screw comes out of the top why can't you just pop an o ring on it? When you screw the nut back down after adjusting, it would squish it. Won't that seal it?

cuz the oring wont do shit to seal inside the threads. been there and done that.
Listen after you change it, then you can proceed to figure out why it still stalls. Then again you might get lucky. but if its toast you gotta change it anyway.

ed <------tryin to figure out how to make a salivating emiticon :D
