Hi

A few months ago I purchased my first Sy, it's the only one in my whole country, and of course in the almost 30 years it has gone thru various hands.

It was not running, so I start to disassemble the engine. From what I have seen the pistons are OEM but the short block is not.

Now I'm looking at the cam an all the info it has is: 148 cpc bc 3 ?? Can anyone tell me if this is a stock syty cam

Thank you

The 148 cam is the 87-91 large base circle TBI cam. "Stock".

The turbo cam is 714. Google "4.3 holy grail". The top result will lead you to a very comprehensive explanation of the 4.3 engine.

For many many years, it was thought that the TBI and SyTy cam were the same PN and profile because the specs for the cam published in the SyTy supplement are the same as the TBI cam. About 10 years ago I came across info to the contrary (the link above). I took a known-original 1992 Typhoon cam and a known-original 1991 TBI cam, and had them "profiled" by Isky cams. The 2 cams are different, but not by much. I posted the results on .net, but I have no idea if those are still available. I don't know where the reports are in my files.

What numbers are stamped into the pad on the right front just in front of the head, behind the water pump mount surface? "1LD" is the designation for a born-with Syclone engine.
