Hi all, Im new here and have several questions about the 4.3L. First im not new to turbos I have been in the starquest (starion/Conquest) scene for 6 years. Ive built one up with a MPI, T3/T4 Turbo, SDS EM3, etc..

I have a 99 model 4.3 Vortec engine that I pulled from a 99 Extreme. It had a rod knocking or Hammering. I would like to build up a Turbo 4.3 using this engine if its a good one to use. I know this one has the balance shaft, yet it also has a roller cam setup. The heads are great, this engine only has 80K miles on it. The previous owner of the truck got it stuck and blew it trying to get out.

Here is my questions.
Is this bottomend a good one to use for the build? or should I go to a 92 and earlier?
I plan on buying the mercruiser intake setup since its cast steel.

Also I am looking for some stock SY/TY manifolds? I have a nice conquest intercooler that Im going to upgrade to 2.75 inlet/outlets.

Thanks for any help, I have a friend in Mass. thats building a SY. His name is Nate P. Not sure if he is on here.

Here is a picture of my quest build.

Re: New Member

if you do a search for balance shaft there are a few people who have used it for a turbo build. Specifically check out what member ERUE (owner/operator of Turbotime) has posted about it. I'm pretty sure he's successfully used that motor more than anyone.

welcome to the board.
