Need Help w/ Wastegate Adjustment/Overboost Near Toledo, Ohio PLEASE

I have a 92 Typhoon that is stock other than an aftermarket intercooler pump and 3" ATR exhaust. The previous owner removed the cat. converter and disconnected the boost control solenoid. I am unsure if he played with the wastegate at all. I have connected the solenoid back up. The truck cuts off at higher RPM's and I am pretty sure it is overboost.

How do I fix this? Do I need to reinstall a cat. converter to solve the problem? How do I check to see if the wategate is properly adjusted? I would also be willing to pay someone to come out and fix it for me.

Thanks,

Justin

Justin,
I had a overboost problem when I installed my ATR exhaust and K&N filter. The problem could have been remedied by changing the wastegate rod. I ended up getting the Ultimate and manual boost controller(MBC).
I assume you get a check engine light at cut out. Use this site to determine your problem.

Once you have confirmed overboost is your issue, then you can decide how you want to resolve. I am not sure adjusting the wastergate can be done without a catcon. Others might know. Putting a catcon back on and potentially adjusting the wastergate rod is a solution. The catcon alone might solve your problem.

You can check if the wastegate rod is close to correct by removing your wheel well. Do a search there are threads out there with what it should look like based on the number of threads showing on the rod.

Another solution which requires little work would be to get a manual boost controller which will allow you to set and hold the boost levels (no more that 14.7 or you will overboost on stock chip) without using the factory boost control solenoid. You would not have to do anything about a catcon just purchase the boost controller for $45 from www.boostvalve.com.

I do not get an engine light at all. I know the bulb is good too. I appreciate all of your input and I will do some more research.

I am in Toledo if there is anything I can help out with. reinstallein the cat would probably fix the problem. I would try that first.

Hey Justin:
What did you end up with? Did you fix the problem you were having with the TY? Let me know if I can help out. My best friend is an excellent automotive guy (engine, body, paint, electrical, etc...). He runs Ed Schmidt GMC in Perrysburg so if there is something the list or I can't figure out, I can hook you up with him.
