im looking to start doing roll cages at my house . im located in alliance, ohio. its near canton, ohio, which is close to the football hall of fame. i work at a chassis shop and i do all the cages that come in there.

i want to make some extra money to help out my typhoon project. i can put any kind of cage you want in. i have done 3 s-series trucks with a 6 point cage, but i have done in total about 30 cages so far.

ive done chevelles, 55 chevys, buick gn's, s-10's, mustangs, gto's, vega's, novas, camaros, and corvettes.

im going to have very resonable prices, cause i want to eventually open my own shop.

unfortunally i dont have any pics of the work i have done. i kicking myself for that

i can do a 6 point cage, for a s-series truck or typhoon for about $500-$600 depending on the material you want it out of. can be either fully mig welded or tig welded, its up to you. if you are interested in getting something done let me know. my number is 330-206-9406.

...actually you may want to "discuss" some the items associated with a rollbar and/or cage in this thread (considering the following for instance):

-the stiffness benefits gained on a 4pt, 5pt, 6pt or 8pt (with what size dia tubes, and with what welds - mig/tig....and possible benefits)
-the approximate weight gained from adding a roll bar or cage in a Sy or Ty
-the "NHRA" requirements for a roll bar or cage (bolt in vs weld vs 4pt, 6pt or 8pt) with ET brackets
-the "proper" angles, connectivity of harness seatbelts (2, 4, and 5 belts) for driver & passenger
-the "proper" mounting points in a Sy and Ty
-the addition of camera and/or video mounts, or head restraints
-whether seats need/require slotting (factory seats)
-the "use/non-use" of locking seat belt retractors as an cheap/alternate harness system
-the use/non-use of "pins" to remove structural components of a rollbar/cage
-the "definition/difference" between a light bar, rollbar, cage, harness/pillar bar
-And how "painting" should be done (during or after installation).

I read that cages can cause issues (and are being restricted on licensed street vehicles in
some states) due the fact that drivers dont wear helments and actually receive head injuries
(from bumping their heads) on cage components. I also hear some insurance companies
are "checking" on autocross/race-car street use and using this to cancel some policies
(after any accidents). Eye-sight restriction is also being blamed in a couple of lawsuits.

At the most recent car show I saw a TT Audi with the "shortie convertible roll loops",
a Shelby Gt500 with the factory 4 pt rollbar and harness mounts on the "ceiling",
a Camero with a full cage and such (around the drivers seat itself) with no passenger/rear seat
a "flat/ellispe" type rollbar on a mustang convertible (I guess this would be a 2pt light bar),
A 5pt roll bar on a Nova that had a back seat but there was a diag bar blocking any rear passengers,
and a "X" cross bar mounted rear seat 6pt roll bar in a 55 Chevy.

Im amazed at the differences I see in installation, access to the rear and/or front seats,
harness belt positions, and padding/lack of padding on this issue. And Ive never seen a
real discussion on street vs strip recommendations for Sy/Tys for rollbars/cages (other
than rear window/diagonal bar construction on Sy`s).

Just my $0.02 cents, but if your serious about building, customizing, or offering
pre-constructed units I think this topic would be well received on this site and talking
to an expert such as yourself would be very instructual/helpful.

ok. ill try and answer all questions.

obviously the more "points" your cage has the stiffer its going to be. i would NOT recomend a bolt in style. they flex= junk.

i do all cages in 1-5/8" mild steel or chromoly tubing. unless your going to get certified/teched. then its a different story. you have certain tubing your allowed in certain areas . it gets more technical.

as in welding. i would suggest getting all the joints tig welded. cause tig looks cleaner and looks professional. though nothing against mig. mig can also look good and professional. just some people can only weld in a straight line anf they have a hard time doing tubing.
i can do both..mig or tig.

harness bar is the bar that goes behind the steats, horizontal with the main hoop. (see pics). this can be removeable so people can get in the back seat. unless your getting certified or teched then it needs to be fully welded in, not bolted.

i see no problem in having a camera mount somewhere in the cage. pins are ok in certain areas like swingouts(door bars, they run down the side of your seat) and removable harness bar.

if your getting a cage done, why get cheap and use your factory seatbelt harness. just get a 4 or 5 point harness. you dont have to hope the seatbelts are going to lock

painting is up to you. honestly i use a satin black paint and it looks awesome. it blends good and you can just sand a part or area to add something. you can get powercoated . but almost 100% it need to be bolted in, unless your gonna lift the body off the frame and all.

this is a 1966 ford fairlane im doing right know. note he has a halo/funny car cage around him. this is going to be certified to run in the 6's. its a all chromoly chassis.

this is a 68 camaro im doing. its also a full chromoly chassis. at this stage it has a four point cage. this can be done in your syty. with the addition of 2 down bars to the rear. that would make it a 6-point cage

this is in a nova. it a mild steel cage. its a very basic design. i can do this in a sy.
