I washed my truck lastnight and went to move it. It then wouldnt start. I get a nice knocking noise from the starter with not even the slightest sign of it wanting to crank over. Now i checked the lines running up from the starter to a little round thing on the passanger fender. I cant get a current to run through the mystery circle and im thinking that needs to be changed. What is is?

The only things I have going to my starter is the power wire and the infamous purple wire, so I really have no clue what you are trying to describe. How old is your battery?

A pic would sure help but on a stock vehicle of any kind rarely is there anything between the bat and the starter except the bat cable itself. There -will- be other wires going hither and yon, sometimes from the bat, sometimes from the starter, but you should have a direct cable connection between bat and starter. As mentioned, check that bat. Preferably under load.

I bet it's a remote solenoid to trigger the starter, like on Fords. Difinitely not stock if that's what it it.

that looks exactly like it actually. WTF is the purple wire? LOL me and my roomy are rackin our brains chasing wires atm. ALL the wires are totally rotted with 1" bits of bare copper wire showing through the insulation. We tore out the starter and are working on replacing all the wires running to and from the starter. Im gona post a pic in my next reply.. gona work on that now actually.

ALSO i checked the batt on the fluke and got a steady 12.5 so the bat is fine. Im the third owner of the TY and the previous owner said its all stock as far as he knew, so if anything was modded it was done by the original owner. This is why i HATE buying used trucks from a dealership *sigh*

The purple wire is a problem child of many still factory SyTy's, I believe it goes from your ignition to your starter to tell it to let bat voltage in and engage. The wire runs extremely close to your downpipe and gets heat soaked and cause the famous click,click,click with no starting. What some people opt to do (not something I would personally recommend) is add a solenoid from a Ford vehical, as pictured above. What you need to do is reattach the loose connection back to that solenoid to get the truck to start. You can search and I'm positive there are write ups and diagrams on the wiring ( I dont remember its been years sence I've messed with one. Bascilly power in and power out to starter HTH!!!

Take a deep breath its OK this isnt a HUDGE deal, NO this isn't stock, YES your batt appears fine. I cant see in your pic if the green wire and the black wire are connected?
Are there anywires connected, it doesnt look like it?

neither of the wires have any color left in them. They're both white. If we turn the key on we should get 12v through the remote solonoid correct? If So then thats the problem right there and i should take this to auto zone.

You always have power to the solenoid, it only sends power to the starter when the ignition tells it to. Thats why when you jump acroos it, it should spark and start the truck. You could have a bad solenoid, but you should be able to jump from one side to other and still start the truck. If I am thinking about this correctly you should have 3 wires going to it 1 from the batt, 1 to the starter, and 1 from ignition telling it send power. Or you pull it out of the setup completely and run power directly to the starter and find your ignition (purple wire) and connect it to the starter, which is stock and youll be in business uselees the starter is bad. Let me know!!

Forgot about FORDS in this post. Psstffst I guess I'm just stuck on the general and big trucks. Oh well... If done correctly this is a worthwhile mod. IMO not all are done correctly but that's just my :rant: .
