My first track run!

Tonight i raced the sy at the track for the first time . It was only a 1/8 th mile track but it was still a blast. My best time was a 8.34 @ 80 mph with a 1.78 sixty foot time. So are those times good, average or poor for a completly stock truck?

No, i just left it in D. Is manually shifting better? I honestly dont know what RPM it shifts at right now at WOT. Im usually too busy looking at what im about to run into . What's the best RPM to shift at?

Those are some good 1/8th times if the truck is 100% stock. Do not shift the truck manually do like you have been doing put it in D and go. Congrats. that is a good time for a stock truck.

I shift manually at 4700 according to Datamaster. If I put it in D shifts are at 4100. I took a lot of time off by shifting it.

Agreed. This will provide the best times & consistency. The stock tranny doesn't work well when shifted manually...it doesn't shift fast enough & you aren't accurate enough. Putting it in D will give you better line pressure and will let you avoid the shift into OD (if you get going that fast). I believe these are the facts as Hartman has presented them.

Pop it into OD upon crossing the finish line, so you can coast to slow down, rather than braking with the transmission in D.

I ran much faster manually shifting it. I dont hit the limiter. Whats the harm? This trans is capable of much more rpm than what a SyTy gives it.

just outta curiousity, how many miles are on your sy, and were you using race gas?

My sy has 76,XXX. And I was using regular 93 octane pump gas. It was also in the 50's outside . I’m not sure if you would consider it 100% stock or not, I do anyways. When I bought it, it already had the mufflers removed, and since then I’ve put in a 160* thermo and new Jabsco pump with re-routed lines, that’s it.

Is your trans stock? Mine has a Fairbanks racing valvebody and some other stuff. It shifts very quick, precise and solid manually. Maybe you have a shift kit or something.

What's funny is last night they were making drag racers on junkyard wars. Those piles of junk were runnin low 9's to mid 8's in the 1/8 if I remember correctly
