Methanol Storage

I have a couple 5gal fuel jugs with meth in them. They've been sitting for over a year. Its in sealed "methanol rated" jugs. And they're in a cool dry place. I'm going to be in the need for it here soon, and I was wondering how to check that its still good. I'd hate to tune on partial meth mix, then when i get fresh methanol, have to re-tune it.

It should still smell like methanol right?

how much is it going to cost you to just tip them away? is it worth risking it or wasting the time tuning to then find it was bad after all?

If still sealed in their "as purchased" condition, IE not refills. Then they're prolly OK. Meth is hygroscopic and pulls water out of the air if in an unsealed container.

As long as it is stored in an air tight container, it should be alright. Methanol like all alcohols, is VERY hygroscopic and it will absorb water out of the air if it is stored in an open container. Keep it stored in the original container tightly capped and not exposed to extremes in temperature (that could cause condensation) and it should have a very long shelf life.

I jave also heard to not store it on the floor (concrete) as it will draw water up from the floor. I tried it with a smaller gas can and a gallon meth and it left a wet spot on the floor after a few days.

I use methanol in my racecars and we leave meth in 5 gallon containers for extended periods of time and I've never seen any decrease in performance. Ive gone 7.1 seconds in the 1/4 @ 187mph on methanol that sat in 5 gal jug for a while. As long as it's sealed it shouldn't be an issue.
