Wanted to get some baseline numbers on my Ty to see how slow it really was. All stock except for the muffler. 1993 Ty #162. 119K miles. I/C pump inop. Pump gas 92/93 octane. New brass term. cap, rotor. New plugs and wires on driver side. Didn't have time to do the pass. side yet. Used stock fuel pump from a CPI Bravada. I'll post that story in another section.
1st pass -14.38 @ 91.94
2nd pass -14.43 @ 93.65
3rd pass - 14.50 @ 92.29
My sons stock 91' Z/28 350 TPI beat me every time. 14.23 @ 98.

What thermostat are you running? If it is 195, change it to a 160 and you will catch him. Also, is there some unleaded racing available near you? Higher octane allows more timing.

Re: Martin US131 test & tune 10/30/10

Idk what thermostat is in it. I can't get pic.s of the time slips to post so I'll just type the results.
1st pass.
RT-.764
60'- 2.181
330'-5.91
1/8- 9.14 @76.06
1/4- 14.38 @ 91.94

2nd pass - tried to build some boost : Slower ET but higher MPH.
RT - Foul .068
60'- 2.382
330'- 6.089
1/8- 9.28 @ 77.21
1/4- 14.43 @ 93.65

3rd pass
RT- .530
60'-2.256
330-6.04
1/8- 9.27 @ 76.17
1/4- 14.50 @ 92.29

So my best ET's had the slowest MPH ; it all proves it has LOTS of room for improvement :)

Your 60ft should be a 1.8 even in a stock truck if it is running properly. I would say mechanically you have some issues to address. 14.0 to 13's would be what I would call a stock truck baseline for ET also, and 98 mph.

If you were to boost launch your Ty properly, you will be beating your son's Z28 easily every time. A stock Typhoon should do atleast 1.8 sec 60' times and even 1.7 sec is possible. Every .1 gained in 60' is worth .15-.20 in the quarter mile. Even conservatively using .15, your above times would easily be 13.7-13.9's. You will also see an increase in your 1/4 mile mph as well. The downside is you will also put more stress on the transmission and propshaft.

Stock Typhoon mph are usually closer to 96mph, if he isn't build any boost off the line vs a 5psi boost launch I could see his mph being down a 3 mph. My Syclone lost almost 3mph when I didn't boost launch it.

What Jeff is trying to get at is get your Typhoon on scan tool and see what the truck doing through the 1/4 mile. In decent weather, a good running and driven Typhoon should be running in the 13's.

Re: Martin US131 test & tune 10/30/10

I was powerbraking some on every pass. 2nd pass I prestaged-neutral rev'd to sink the brake pedal, staged, boosted and got pushed through the beam. It runs nice and smooth but with the I/C pump not working (basically no intercooler) I think it is pulls all my timing advance. I drove it to the track (just over an hour 1 way) so it never had a chance to cool. When it's cool, either going to or leaving work and it pulls Strong :) Fuel pump is an issue also. On the To Do list is fuel pump, i/c pump and get some data. It still pulls on the street pretty good, I just know it can be a LOT better. Any body around the Lansing area with data logging capability till I get set up? :)
My sons mph indicates he should be capable of 13.8 ish. with some traction.

Re: Martin US131 test & tune 10/30/10

Get your intercooler working first before you doing any other WOT runs.

Have you tried this procedure?

Brake Boost Procedure:

1.Put the transmission in (N) Neutral.

2.Rev the engine while simutaneously pushing down HARD on the brakes.

3.The brake will set a lot tighter because the engine will produce more vacuum assist.

4.After doing this for a couple seconds the brake will be as far down as it will go.

5.Keep the brake all the way depressed, and shift the transmission into Drive (not Overdrive).

6.Start pressing on the gas pedal now to build up boost.

7.When the boost is where you want it and it is time to go, release the brake and slam the gas at the same time.

8.Typically, boost levels of somewhere between 0-5 lbs is good. Try launching at different levels to see which works best with your truck. You want a little chrip from the tires but not a lot of wheel spin.

You should be able to launch with atleast 4-6 psi. If while doing this you push through the brakes or you rear tires start to spin you have either front brake issues or rear wheel cylinder issues.

What Dave said... When you are ready I'm in the Chelsea area.

I could meet you somewhere in between and do some Data logging for you.

WOW, I didn't know you had all those issues with your Ty. I agree with dgoodhue, get your intercooler pump fixed BEFORE you do any more racing.

Re: Martin US131 test & tune 10/30/10

I just wanted to get some base #'s and grudge race the kid, not racing full time, it was the last day the track was open for the year. It's been my daily driver this year and has run nice and smooth all summer.
