Well HI first of all. My beautiful wife just presented me with the best gift ever: A 1993 Tyhoon!! Its Black with a black body kit! I'd been pestering her for a while about wanting to buy one, and she always told me no they're so old and ugly. LOL But she bought me one anyway. She insisted i register here and say hi becuase the previous owner made her promise. LOL

So anyway, it's not in mint condition like some of your rides that i see when i browse the site....but it will be someday! My only complaint right now is that it feels more like a truck than a sports car when i drive it. The shifter is just weird compared to all the cars i've owned...but I guess i'll get used to it for the uniqueness of the thing. Does anyone make a short shifter for these trucks?

Welcome to the forum! The handling traits you are explaining are normal, since this is a body-on frame truck with a solid rear axle and a torsion-bar front suspension. Most people lower thier trucks to imporove the look and handling, and that can usually be achieved by blocks and loosening the torsion bars. One special thing about the Tys is that they have ELC (Electronic Level Control), for the rear suspension, and its baisically a set of air-shocks and a compressor. When lowering a Ty most people disconnect the ELC system and install some standard sport shocks in the rear. Another, more expensive option is to replace the front torsion bars with a coil spring setup. There are some vendors on this site that make and sell such kits. If the steering is a little loose or is too slow, you can change to a quick-ratio steering box. As far as the shifter goes, thats pretty normal for these trucks, since they are automatics afterall, but some people have swapped in different shifters. glad to see u found the site . take care of the ty, and clean it up, wish i did. BnM makes a nice short throw shifter for the tranny. have fun with the truck and keep in touch.


PS: his wife really is beautiful guys:lol: , dont hate me for that man

Yea the steering is quite awful compared to what i'm used to. I just attributed that to having a 12year old truck! Plus the road were wet the other day, and any time i got into boost the rear just would keep spinning and spinning. I gotta switch this beast into 4x4 i guess if i expect to move when there is any weather on the roads.

I'm near philly. I see you're in whitpain! I've only ever seen these trucks online..never in person. I see you guys meet up from time to time, i'd love to come to one if you guys don't mind. I'm sure the wife will want to come too...again if thats ok?

Hey Greg! Thanks again for treating my wife good on the deal. She says thanks for the compliment. She says its too bad it wasn't warmer, you woulda gotten more to look at if it was hot out that day! LOL

No switchen into 4x4 mode, it only knows AWD mode.....Greg, did he get a front drive shaft with his Ty??? When I bought mine, it had no Drive shaft for the front ( thanks Ry368) and it sucked trying to boost...no fun........anyways welcome.....Ask your wife if shes guna be out in the garage with you on your voyage of being a Ty owner.......

the ty is a 5 SPEED. it has the blazer 4x4 x case, so yes he would need to shift it into 4x4.

Congrats on the truck man. Beats what I got for Valentine's Day (well, the physical items I can hold in my hand anyway, none of you guys get details on the other stuff). We do have meets fairly regularly, and you and your wife are welcome at all of them. Take a look around over at www.northeastsyty.com, that's the home of NASTE, our region's owner's club. Sounds like a keeper if she bought you a Ty.
The Ty you have is definitely an odd-ball.
They didn't offer a 5 speed or a switchable transfercase from PAS so those components you will need additional info on if you ever go to service them or replace parts.

Enjoy the Ty and defintiely come out to the SyTy Nationals in KC this year.
We have never seen a manual SyTy show up in person.

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys. Sorry but the wife doesn't want her picture all over the internet. I dunno why, you guys seem harmless enough LOL

Well I took some time today and did a little detailing to the engine. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while! Either that or the "cool" scoop on the hood sucks in the dirt. :dunno:
