Interest in seeing what the Evo is all about?

This message is directed towards Chitown.

If everything goes as planned (that is, I dont get screwed), then I will be picking up a used Evo in Philadelphia Friday evening. It is not clear when I will arrive back in Chicago, but sometime Saturday afternoon most likely.

Anyhow, I emailed Jerry thank him for the S4 test drive, and to offer a test drive in exchange in the new Evo. He suggested a Chitown gathering and so, if anyone wants to see what the Evo is all about, I am more than happy to share it.

No launches though! Ive read that successful launches have to slip at 5K!

From my passenger side test drive, the Evo is certainly different than anything else Ive been exposed to. Very weak below 3K, and on the test drive the tach never went beyond 5K, so just when it started feeling pretty strong we had to back off. I came away a little pensive about my purchase, but I dont really know what to expect from this particuler vehicle. The handling hinted at phenomenol though. The Evo failed to make a 180* turn into a space at the dealership after the test drive...I was shocked, it was embarassing for the car.

Anyhow, let me know.

Thanks,
Seth.

Seth-

Hell yea! Stop by my place. I'd love to see the new ride. When did this purchase materialize? Oh...sorry, how have you been doing lately?

How's the Sy and the Ty? Just kidding on the Ty thing. Anyways, I'd love to see the Evo and hear the details. Also, discuss rebuilds!

I'm here in Naperville now and flying out tomorrow morning. Unless some new posts pop up by the time I get back Saturday, I'm going to just assume Brandon and I will meet privately.

I'm taking a nap when I get back, so I'll call around to interested parties early Saturday afternoon probably.

HARRRR!!!
Hey,

I talked to Hood. What if we all GTG Saturday the 24th? He'll be in that week to pick up Zac's old Sy. Maybe we can do Hooters on Butterfield. Bring the rides, and Seth can pimp that EVO big daddy style....

Does the 24th work for everyone?

Seth's in Urbana-Champaign, don't know if he would come up again? I'd be up for it though. I'm still up for tomorrow too Seth....

Hmm, I haven't stopped watching this topic, yet I received no email notification of new posts.

Anyhow Brandon and I hooked up briefly while the family did some shopping in Costco.

The roads around the huge parking lot are lightly traveled, and just perfect for insane manuevers in my new jap-mobile. I was hoping Brandon might chime in with what he thought of the car and particularly my driving in it.

I, frankly, am just so insanely happy with it that it is hard for me to describe. This particular Evo is just insanely fast, and is extremely difficult to drive responsibly. Starting around 3500rpms the boost seems to climb exponentially to 22lbs, the feeling is just incredible. The sound above 6000rpms is pretty nice too.

I can't say enough about the handling. The suspension and the awd come together to make a car that even non-track worthy driver's like myself can get away with insane manuevers in. Making a 90 degree turn in a pinch is a simple flex of the hand brake, and top of 2nd pull....just point the car in the right direction and it figures the rest out. I dont have the balls to take the car to its limits yet.

The turning radius blows monkeys though.

Anyhow, I'm not sure I will be able to make it up to a gathering next weekend, but I'll see what I can do. In any case, I extended an offer to Hood to swing by my house, as I am on his way home.

Sorry Seth this has taken a while, work has been hectic....

Anyways, 'drive it like you stole it' pretty much sums up the ride I had with Seth! The Evo is awesome. It's not like anything I've been in before. It doesn't feel like there is a ton of torque, there's not, it feels 'thin' however it just keeps pulling. Next thing you know you've pegged the boost gauge at 22psi and you're at 7000 rpm at a whole lot of fast! It's pretty cool. Fit and finish is nice, look is great, brakes are awesome, a great car overall. Seth has a great vehicle.

In terms of driving it, I would never do that to a car. Seth was throwing this thing around crazy style, too much for my blood, but fun nonetheless. Thanks for the ride and the drive Seth! Nice choice for a daily driver.

***UPDATE***

I guess Hood & Inc. are in town now and are picking up the SY as we speak...

I haven't confirmed with them yet, but anyone who's interested let's meet at the Hooters on Butterfield between 12:30 and 1:00 ??

That should give everyone enough time.

Jerry
