I just pooped

I have been fighting a stumble on acceleration. I turned up my fuel pressure a bit and it got a little better. I was under my truck this evening just checking for leaks and such. I gave my catalytic converter a little bang bang and I heard a rattle. I grabbed the hack saw and started going for. got it off and drove around the block, got to a stop sign half gassed it, and now I have to go take a shower. I have never felt this thing take off like that.:tup: Still really rich and a little stumbly but I'll get it. P.S. how do you guys drive around with open down pipes. I thought I was gonna get pulled over and thrown in the slammer

Re: I just pooped

I will remember that from now on. I have a pretty decent bottom end with an RPM air to air, Kb headers and a Innovative T66. I am excited, I have been waiting almost two years to have warmpancakes post in my stuff.

Re: I just pooped

Your going to blow it up like pancakes said, Put A stock ish muffler on it or kababoom. no joke. Or get A bigger turbo & put A external WG on it. just ask anyone..

Re: I just pooped

I have a bigger turbo and also do have an external wastegate with a ten pound spring with my boost controller turned all the way down. Thanks for all the input. I don't know much about the stock turbo system. When I bought my truck it had a lot of stuff on it already. I read on here a lot about beefing up the bottom end and I feel really confident in my build and base tune. I just ordered a Magnaflow high flow cat and for sure going back on.

Re: I just pooped

I drove mine around when it was stock with an open DP and never had any problems. Im still running a strait through exhaust. If you plumb the exhaust out the back end, even with it fully gutted its realativly quiet.

Well I Know I dont know and thanks for all the input. I will not be driving it anymore until I get my cat installed. Just excited that it finally is starting to run like I thought it should.

Re: I just pooped

open down pipe +stock turbo= motor gonna go poop soon

I understand the problem of overboosting and am currently running an open downpipe setup but have yet to notice the boost spiking. Matter of fact it sits strong at 12 psi to be exact. Maybe I'm a lucky sumbitch?

Easy:

With it open, stupid loud. Bump the switch and everything gets routed though a full exhaust with muffler. It's so quiet, that you can barely hear the turbo...

Is that on your stock gauge? What is DM telling you?

If your ECM isn't throwing a code you might be ok. Stock gauges lie though.

PTE52 + Open DP with cutout plate removed also = loud, but love it.

Nope, aftermarket boost gauge, datamaster however is saying 7lbs of boost so something is fishy.

ECM isn't throwing a code for overboost so I'm good on that part. Yeah, stock gauge says I'm overboosting 15+ psi lol.

well guys

I don't have a cat or a stock exhaust anymore. But i have been watching out for overboosting issues.

What i found out is that the stock wastegate solonoid sucks bad. The reason i say this is because before is ever removed the cat or the exhaust the boost would jump to 15 back to 10 then back to 15 constantly when under boost no matter where the throttle was at 1/2 or WOT.

So what i did was bypass the solonoid with a tee and the truck only made 5-6psi of boost but the boost stayed steady. I then hooked the solonoid back up and un hooked the wiring and it made the same 5-6 psi of boost. So if the solonoid was to fail the soloniod fails in the open mode. the ecm when powering the solonoid shuts it.

So now with the exhaust flowing very well with a cat i'm having a problem with it over boosting cause the solonoid and ecm sucks ass for control.

I have the wastegate hooked up directly to the compressor housing now elemnating the stock solonoid all together. The boost is now going up to 17psi and stays there rock solid. The ecm shuts the engine down if the boost goes over 15 psi for a certain amount of time.

But since the wastegate has adjustable rod i think that i can lenghten the rod to lessen the pressure on the flappaer to get my boost down to the 15 psi range.

The A/F when it is @ 17 psi before it shuts down is in the 10.8 range so it has allt he fuel it can stand and it show 3-4 degrees of knock when the ecm shut the engine down till the boost come back under 10 psi and then it back on running.

hope this can gives some insight to some peeps .

update..

It seems that now it's not having the sutting down issues like it was on the dyno. I'm still wondering what caused that on the dyno.

From a dead stop and hit hte go pedal to the floor it makes about 10 psi in first gear asn when it shifts to second the boost goes to 13-14 psi and in third it makes 15-16 psi and stays there to like 100 mph. this is all on tuner style boost control. bypasing the stock solonoid.

Re: I just pooped

I always thought the problem with the unstable boost was an issue with the stock exhaust housing not being able to keep up with the flow of an unrestrictive exhaust system or lack of an exhaust system

With my truck whatever I adjust the rod to it maxes at in each gear and stays there. rpm turbo, no exhaust, stock motor, a2a and stock boost solenoid.

When the truck had a stock turbo I had no cat, stock dp, 3" catback with a dynomax ultraflow straight through muffler and with the adjustment rod set to 18 psi it would bounce between 16 and 18 all day long.

From what i have read i thought the same thing but according to the way my truck was acting ever before i took the cat and flow master muffler off of it it was all over the place between 10-15 up and down causing a surging problem.

Re: I just pooped

weird, I have no clue lol but I can tell you which im sure you ralready aware of never put a blowmaster muffler on one of these trucks.. the baffle type mufflers are too restrictive
