Hey gang,
I am slowly coming along with my ty resto project and today i ran into another problem. I tried to remove the lock nuts from the stock wheel caps and I slightly stripped the lug wrench that came with the ty. I got one cap off but the other three are locked in there pretty good. I am gonna have to order a new wrench from Mcgard. My qeustion is: How the heck do i get seized lock nuts off without destroying the rim and wheel cover?Hopefully i won't strip the new lock wrench.
All help will be gladly appreciated.
thanks,
janeto.

I have kind of the same problem, but I lost my centercap key :( Could anyone tell me the size or a link to help me find something to fit it?

I welded a 1/2" drive socket to the end of my key. (I could have just welded a nut.) Now I can attach an impact screwdriver, and whack it with a hammer. Works great for slightly stripped keys and bolts.

Try using a large C clamp to hold the key pressed against the lock while you turn the key. You will need to slip one end of the clamp thru one of the wheel openning and brace it against the backside of the wheel. Then place the key on the lock and tighten the clamp down onto the end of the key. Once the key is held firmly against the lock you should be able to turn the key enough to break the lock free.

Not sure how well this will work if either the key or lock is stripped.

FWIW, whenever you have someone work on your truck where they have to take off your wheel, always remove and install the center caps yourself. 90% of the time a mechanic will overtighten the locks and you will be facing the same problem all over again.

It also helps prevent this problem if you use some of this on the threads...

You have to get the stuck bolt out first.
