I was reading most boost on pump gas? and started to wonder about my TY, I bought it with some basic mods. and only run 93 Octane. But how do i controll the boost. I have not touched the ultimate for what it was set 1t16, does this mean i am running 16lbs of boost? and if i go up i will be running 17lbs? what abouty adjustingthe waste gate arm. how will that afftect the performace of the truck? I jsut dont know enough about how turbos work and do not want to damage anything. I have pushed the truck hard to see what it feels like and its great but want to know how to set it up right. have spent hours reading threads here but would like to have some imput form you guys!!! TIA you guys are the best

The meth injection is not connected, i have the pump out and there is no tank or controler for it. just a WOT switch that was connected to the pump. any one want it thegear that i have or should i save it to peace it together correctly?

Re: How do I control my boost?

depends if you are still on the stock electronic boost solenoid or not.
if you are then the ultimate will change the boost.
yes t1 16 = 16 psi
or t1 20=20 psi.
you should at a bare minimum have a aftermarket boost gauge somewhere, but better than that would be watching everything with datatmaster.

there are manual or also called open loop boost controllers they just have a valve and spring that lets the wastgate actuator see x amount of boost.

Re: How do I control my boost?

again.
are you using the stock boost solenoid?
if you dont not know, do a search under my name for past month or so.
someone posted a pick of how the stock setup should look.

Did you delete the cat? Messing with the exhaust can cause boost spikes.

Also, the stock WG is old, sticky, and improperly sized...i've seen trucks with 10psi -22psi because the thing is so crappy.

Well, they're supposed to do that, but I haven't found many that actually did control boost that well across a whole run.

What he describes with the 16=20 isn't uncommon.

I'd recommend 2 turns out of the WG rod, and recheck boost to make sure it's closer to the actual 16.

Thanks for the help, so should I turn the rod all the way in, mark it and then do 2 full turns out? will try it this week end.

no, do 2 turns from what you have now.
be easy on the throttle you dont want to accidently get a really bad boost spike.
so how are you controlling boost? stock solenoid?

absolutely, i was just trying to help him figure out "how" to change boost then work on solving spikes.

aboss, when i had stock turbo with open downpipe i had to put on a external wastegate onto the exhaust crossover pipe, that gave me good spool-up and no spikes.

I see a solenoid on the turbo in the stock location, i am assuming that it is a stocker.

oh and when on the highway doing like 80mph the boost goes to 5psi then 0 the 5 psi and then drops try'n to keep steddy boost is hard , do i have a leak in the TB shaft? ( i know it's off the subject)

not really sure about the boost bouncing back and forth.
if you havent already done so, i would definitely do the bicycle tube trick.
i have had my sy for 3 years, and i still found a bunch of leaks even after i tought everything is good.
cut a bicycle tube and connect to intercooler inlet and hook a air compressor to the valve stem on the tube. with my tb rebuilt and all new vac lines, my boost gauge showed i was holding 5 psi for a couple of minutes.
