Going to Track.....What Air Pressure and Boost?

Hopefully, weather permitting, I will be taking my truck to the track for the first time on Sept 12. I was wondering what air pressure would be the best and what boost is the best for launching? My truck will hold over 10lbs but breaks all the tires loose.

I have the twelve-second recipe with a stock turbo that has been modded to a 20g 12cm and using a ultimate chip. I was also thinking about mixing some race gas with my 93 octane when I get there. How much should I get and how much gas should I have in my tank when I race? 1/2 tank, 3/4 tank or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I wrote a guide on tuning stock trucks for best performance, including a section with Tips for Racing at the Track.

I don't race with less than 1/2 tank, otherwise the fuel slosh can starve the pump when the boost hits. The faster your truck is, the easier this happens and the more fuel you need. I used to be able to race with 3/8 tank but now anything below 1/2 tank will starve the pump on a launch (or even a 2nd gear roll).

My trip to the track got rained out last weekend, but it's on for this weekend and It will happen tonight. I'm really looking forward to running my truck and will post my times. The weather will be on the cool side. That's good for the turbo but I don't know how it will be for traction. I will let everyone know how I made out.

Can't wait to hear your times, good luck.

As for tire pressure you can start out with whatever you use on the street. Then slowly let 1psi out in front, 2psi out in back. I personally feel lower pressure in the back will benefit you more, 65% rear 35% front. I would maybe boost about 4-6psi off the line. If your spinning on 10psi. Good luck!

It wouldn't hurt to run drag radials in the rear
