Re: front propshaft bolt size?

I know the bolts SY2932 sells are more than adequate for the job, without looking into the recommended torque settings, (which may actually answer my question), is there any advantage or disadvantage to using grade 12.9 bolts on the front shaft. It could be that the standard torque figures wouldn't stretch the 12.9.s enough. On my phone atm having family dinner out and getting "the look" from the missus, so will have to cut loose.

Re: front propshaft bolt size?

Torque for the front bolts is 75 Nm or 55 ft. lbs. It is 125 Nm or 92 ft lbs. for the rear ones. I don't see the benefit of a higher graded fastener in this application. The only thing that ruins these fasteners is people rounding them off. I have never heard of one failing (stock or otherwise) in the 13+ years that I have owned my truck.

Hi Mike, you are probably correct, I was just thinking about these when I come to change out my propshaft. I know we have some 12.9 cap heads at work which I could get for free. I presume these could be used in lieu of the Tx ones too.
