Front prop shaft

I have installed the prop shaft on the typhoon here a few times. In, out, in... Out. Its in again but needs to come out.

The prop shaft really did not have any marks or # on it. Nothing was legible to read. It appears to be a upgrade one with the larger tube material. ( i honestly dont know tlwhat a stock typhoon prop shaft looks like I seen my sy and I think they are diff. This looks not factory.) It could be a dynotech, or D&R? I have a b/n D&R that looks similar..

Anyway I'm getting this horrible scrape/scratch noise and can't seem to nail it down. Wondering if it is the shift thing and I have to buy a bracket or something? Does not do it with the shaft out. Soon as it is in I assume its the tube making contact with the bracket ?

Who's had this problem anyone confirm ?

First thing I think of with a scrape is front backing plates or u joints for the driveshaft.

I already tweaked the one backing plate that had a little noise to it.

I never ran a upgrade propshaft though I have a brand new one for the syclone. Expirence this noise and don't see any marks...yet. Common to have the scrape noise with a upgraded prop shaft on stock trans bracketry? Or can you get by with out one and should I be looking closer at the actual joints

I have read about these custom bent brackets wonder if its what I need. Seems like one thing after the next pileing up

Anyone have a pic of how the correct way the cable/hardware is supposed to be.

Looks like it could be installed backwards, but looks as if the cable is behind closest to the trans and the faster is on the outside closest to the propshaft ( contact point?) crawled under for a quick inspection and see 1 small contact area where the actual bracket holds the cable ( 2 fasteners on the trans pan black bolts). Maybe that can slide inward a small amount?? The keyed/locked bent bracket is what may be a issue. I can't say for sure I don't know which way it would go. A picture of a OE setup would be great.

The bracket that they sell would put the placement where?

This driveshaft is similar to a piece of one I pulled from a bravada ( approx. 2 inch diam. Tube/shaft) so I'm not sure if its a cat and mouse game I'm playing here chasing a noise I think I know where is but isn't.

Was told a syclone and typhoon shaft are similar. I know the sy was more of a rod, where this is tube.

Figure I would put a picture up of the shaft. Appears to be aftermarket. Next to a piece of a similar size Bravada shaft. ( seems to be similar in diam using for reference) There is a mark or a new scrape only on one side. I took a pic. Wondering if one of the U joints is blown?? creating a wobble? You can see the scrape on the welded on balance washer. Its in the same area of the little offset bent bracket. Not sure on the order of hardware looks like a big bulky nylock fastner head which is making contact, is this right order? Still wondering if one of the brackets would cure this or can I tweak what ever is under there more?

I broke my stock propshaft and the one I got to replace it was an HD shaft which was much thicker, a lot like the one you have. When I installed it there was a horrible grinding noise. Didn't notice a mark on the shaft at first but drove it a few miles anyway and turns out the shift bracket was rubbing on it. I bent the stock bracket but that messed up the shift alignment. Got the spots machine bracket and reinstalled the shaft. Had the whole truck in the air and put it in drive and confirmed it was no longer rubbing the bracket on the transmission in any geat. But I still had a grinding noise, just not as loud. Turns out that the same thing that cause my propshaft to fail in the first place put a lot of stress on my front diff and popped the seals and it was running very low on fluid and when under a load it would grind. Without the shaft and just free wheeling, no noise. So I'd recommend two things, one: get the sportmachine bracket. And two, check the front diff.

Good info. Not that I'm any help but I just installed the Bravada shaft on my truck. The clearance is tight but no rubbing, no noise. It stopped the "whine" my truck had due to the broke boot/missing grease.

Thanks for both the posts guys. I had my buddy up in Bronx snap a pic of his.( got pic earlier today just review it now) Looks like the stock typhoon shaft has a thinner section there. So it looks as if it would not make contact factory. Im just goin from what i see a pic of what my buddy sent me.The big issue with me was guessing what it was. I was able to dig out my upgrade syclone shaft from the box and look it over. I called the maker and spoke to him. He told me to look @ all the retaining clips and note if they are all on same facing direction. I verified that. I also noted that this upgrade shaft has the greaseable joint, where my newer one does not. Maker said its a older version where they since upgraded what they use the non grease able fitting joint.


I guess there is really no other solution to the bracket/ upgrade shaft. For all I know the little scraping could have sent the TV out of wack . I have no clue. I know I might be placing a order thru sport machines again most likely. Cooked ANOTHER plug wire or two. Truck was like DAT DAT DAT DAT... And I'm like OMG WHAT NOW! Got to get some real good wires. Got the truck. Found one cooked. Just drove it for 3 days. Cooked another? Kind of like a love hate thing with the truck. My dad can't stand this typhoon. He had no problem with the syclone. His line for this truck is " this truck is worse than a horse, it eats parts and not hay".
