FNG, sorta

Figuered I would go ahead and start another post here even though I already introduced myself last June. For some background, I almost bought a Ty back then, but due to extra miles that the seller failed to list, the deal fell through. I put the search on hold for a little bit, but still kept checking the forum for for a Ty. After waiting for awhile, I saw a post from Aboss who needed to get rid of his silver 92. For info see the link below:

http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45954 .

His truck fit the bill, so I have once again joined the ranks of ownership. As I am still in Korea (work for the Army), I will be picking up #841 in May. Aboss is a great guy and has been quite accomidating given the circumstances (ie. I can't pick up the truck for 3 months). I will be moving to the Tampa/ Sarasota area, so the truck isn't moving that far. I look forward to meeting fellow enthusiast in the area and checking out some of your rides.
I have been over this site about a million times and am a prolific Search button user, but there always seems to be something new to learn. I am going to be grabbing a few things from the forum pretty soon, like a ALDL cable, datamaster and a upgraded steering shaft, and hope to get some ZR-1 rims before I get back there so I will have plenty of projects to keep me busy. I am sure I will be hitting you guys up a bunch, as I don't have the strongest mechanical background, but I am more than willing to get my hands dirty. Plus my girlfriend has a car so I will always have a backup car if I mess up anything too bad.

Congrats on the purchase, Nice color and looked like it was in good shape. Sucks you have to wait 3 months to pick it up, but I'm sure it will be worth it:tup:

Well, overall I waited 13 years to get one, so three months shouldn't be that bad, but now that I actually am getting one I am getting a bit impatient.

Welcome...again. I'm over in the St Pete area so feel free to look me up. I'm new to the whole Sy/Ty thing but learning as I go.I have had the truck for about 5 or 6 months now and it was only on the road about 2 months before I started taking it apart............so I think I have a pretty good grasp on things. Luckily, I owned 2 pair of jack stands before getting it. Haaaa.

Cool, I was a little worried about buying a Ty after reading through the posts and seeing all the problems, but after visiting the Kills Thread, it seems to make it all worthwhile. I can definetlely use all the help I can get as far as fixing problems that seem to haunt these trucks. The only cars I have ever worked on was an old S-10 Blazer and a 1984 Z28.

So you are saying jackstands are a good investment?

Haaaa. Actually mine has been fine mechanically. Aside from fixing up neglect from previous owners. It's torn down now for paint and rust repair. Going to the paint shop soon.

But a set of jack stands is a must have.
