Hope all you guys in the central part of the U.S. are doing ok.... some really sad things happening with the floods and tornadoes.

yeah, rain and floods suck. i thin ki heard a few dams got messed up and caused major flooding

I feel for the Cedar Rapids folks. I lived there in '93, and remember how bad that was.
This is *much* worse.

My sister worked in the basement of the Hospital they're evacuating. Bizarre.
I can't really think of anything more logistically difficult than evacuating a Hospital.

There's gonna be a lot of the downtown that's just wiped away. Reminds me a lot of the '97 Flood in Grand Forks.

Here's to hoping the rain lets up and the cleanup/rebuild can begin soon.

Having lived there in 96/97, I can see the APAC building I worked in is flooded to around the 2nd floor. Downtown is a mess... it's insane. Hope any locals are staying safe and dry. Looks like there will be a lot of clean up jobs in that town.

Tornadoes, flooding, and dam braking, oh my! There's been flooding by me, but it never reached my house. Earlier in the week there was about a foot plus of water at one end of my street from the very nearby flooding river. The water level has gone down a bit, but it's starting to slowly climb again. Just this morning I saw water reaching into the playground at a park on the other end of my street.

Here's liks to a couple vids that are from VERY close to my house. Some of the footage may not seem that bad unless you know where the water level NORMALLY is.

Sidenote: Both vidz refer to a statue, but they're talking about different ones. One is just slightly downriver from the other.

I ate at that Dairy Queen a lot.

It's gonna take a long time to recover from this. There's so much chemical/sewage/etc in that water that they're gonna have to level a lot of those buildings.

Downtown, probably few outside the 100 yr. line. Maybe not all of those, either, but I would have thought '93 would have reminded people of the importance.

There will be a lot of businesses that don't. Add the already crappy economy to the equation, and there will be quite a few that just walk away and don't come back.

Grand Forks/East Grand Forks snapped back well from the '97 flood (I'd say it looks better than it ever did), so hopefully they can pull off a similar miracle in CR.

i know someone, who has a pic of a sy with water up to the doors. when here he gets back from vacation maybe he'll post that pic on here. more then likely it will become a flood vechile.

There have been over 100 tornado's in Kansas....i have not seen one of them

They just need to figure out how to get rid of the smell from the Quaker Oats factory.

And ADM, and National Oats, and the packing plant. Nothing quite like the smell of burning Crunchberries, mixed with hog-lot.

Non-operation for many months will cut the smell down, I'm sure. I can't see how that place would be functional inside 6 months. And even then, it would have to rely on trucked-in grain, since the rail line is washed out over the river.

I was always kinda puzzled at the placement of that plant... looked like it was just begging to be flooded. I realize you gotta have a lot of water for processing of that sort, but that's a really fragile location. I suppose it was more a function of legacy than anything else.
