First Datalog Ever

Ok, I am totally new to this tuning thing, but I decided to jump in headfirst. I just got my ADLD cable in the mail and I downloaded both Tunerpro and Datamaster. Since I have no idea what I am doing, I went with Datamaster as it is a little more user friendly. I recorded a log with my setup as it is now. It is saved in the uni format and I was wondering if anyone can give me a start point as far as what I am looking at, and where I need to go from here. I am getting poorer by the second thanks to this truck, so I don't have chip burning software yet, but I am saving for it. My base file is available here http://rapidshare.com/files/422624957/base.uni if anyone can read it for me and help me out. Full list of mods, that I know of:

Bored .30 over, 3 inch downtube and exhaust (which currently dumps right after the cat), PT 51-61 turbo, AFR, manual boost controller set to ~15 psi, cold air intake. and a Phil Long chip with the little knob to turn to different tunes. As far as I know, everything else is stock, but who knows. I am like the 8th owner of the truck and have no idea what else was done along the way.

Anything I can get my hands on as far as where to go next, I will gladly accept. I can take a little ridicule also as it seems to be dispensed liberally on this forum.
Thanks.

Re: First Datalog Ever

im no pro at it as im learning as well, but from what i been understanding, your AI temps are just a tad high idling, but seem to go down in the 120's when driving i guess could be a little better with stock water to air, and looks like you may be running a 180 thermostat? ( 160 brought my AI temps down to around 110 ) ( no lower IC scoop either ) also your boost controller is set?
the most boost i seen you get in the file was 5.2psi. at 3500rpm & 5.1psi at 3700rpm

have a read on this page below

Re: First Datalog Ever

Thanks for the website, I added it to my Ty Favorites List. Now I have an idea what some of those values in Datamaster are. Looks like I need to turn up my boost. From what I have read from some of the other guys tuning, the manual boost controllers aren't really the best way to go. Have to look into that later I guess. First I need to figure out why I am only getting 5 lbs of boost.

Before you turn up the boost make sure you have the boost preference set correctly in DataMaster.... you should be set on the 2-3bar setting.

Re: First Datalog Ever

I have to wonder if the fact that I don't have the stock boost controller hooked up is messing up the results. I am going to try adjusting the parimeters with DM, then I will start messing with the boost stuff.

Nope, MAP sensor reads boost regardless of the controller.. making sure the preference set correctly in DM is the important thing.

Got it. I just did some regular driving and recorded another file with DM set up like you suggested in your earlier post. For some reason, it still isn't reading Boost PSI. I need alot more time to figure this out. Also, there is alot of detonation. I am going to have to get this thing figured out before it blows up on me. Time to get a real time tuner and get this thing dialed in.

Check ALL of your vacuum lines and check valves. If you have a major leak (say at the bottom of the MAP) you'll have all sorts of issues. I'm not near my computer with DM and TP on it, otherwise I'd look at your log.... I'd keep your foot out of it till you know what is going on.

I just bought one of the silicone hose kits, so I will be going over the whole vac system within the week. I will post up my second file later tonight.

You don't have an absurd amount of KR.... 3.9 is the highest I can see, and that's during a part throttle run, which seems to cause the greatest amount of KR with these things.

We're not seeing any AFR info on your log... I'd assume your chip doesn't have the patch in it to allow it to display in DM. With the relatively small amount of KR you have I'd assume the fueling is pretty close because you're carrying a good amount of timing (20 degrees).

It would probably be a good idea to put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what the baseline is set at. I'd also pull the plugs and see how they look, and ohm out the plug wires while you're at it just to ensure they're in good shape.

You're running in open loop, the engine temp is OK, but your IAT temps are a bit high. You may want to flush the IC system with CLR (calcium/lime/rust remover) and make sure the pump is hot-wired, etc.

Thanks for the information/interpretation. I am going to get on alot of that stuff on my next day off.

Just some further info, I have a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail. It runs around 35 lbs at idle.

As for the IC temps, I still have the stock IC pump, which I am looking to change out here pretty soon with a higher flowing unit. I will be getting rid of the metal lines at the same time.
I think I am going to just do the whole plugs, cap and rotor. It seems these trucks like to eat those specific parts and it is cheap insurance.
Last on my list is getting the silicone hose kit and installing them. I think that is going to clear up a couple issues as some of the hoses are fairly brittle. I am also going to get a muffler, cause the exhaust dumping right after the cat is making me deaf and giving me a huge headache.
