I would just like to thank every single typhoon and syclone owner for posting such great advice on building motors. I just finished my motor a few days ago and its running great. I bought it with a spun crank bearing in january.... After much time and money I heard it come alive ;it was the greatest feeling....

thanks again

well most of the time i spent on the message board looking for whats best for our trucks. well another thing i had to build it to pass california emissions which i havent taken to smog yet......
here is my list its gonna save you some headaches :)
if you have any ? or want exact part # feel free to ask

trw forged turbo piston .30 over
eagle h-beam rods
clevite crank and rod bearing
edelbrock timing chain
crane cam compucam 2020
sealed power hydraulic roller lifters
comp cams welded tip pushrods
comp cams 1.6 ratio roller rockers (dont forget to get the louis tool to elongate the pushrod hole)
crane cams springs and retainers
manley int/ext valves
felpro high performance head gaskets
sealed power gasket kit
arp heads and main cap bolts (kept 2 main bolt will withstan alot with these bolts)
new cast crankshaft chamfered, hardened.(stock is good for plenty of HP)
sealed power hi vol/ high pressure oil pump and shaft
Total seal street piston rings
high flow water pump
new distributor
160 degree thermo mr gasket
screw in studs
stock heads ported and polished by Juan Mendoza in garden grove this guy ports heads for professional boat racers and few drag cars..... in other words hes the best in the west coast
dont forget to balance the assembly this one automotive assembly in south gate did it and these guys are top class nascar owners take there cranks here.
and well the little but important parts
pvc valves 799c
spark plugs cr42ts
cap and rotor (conrad)
motor mounts
taylor spark plug wires
k&n air filter
serpentine belt

the majority of the parts were bought at summit...

well is was costly but well worth it cant wait to get the break in period over ..

good luck nate

Intereseting. I can't wait myself to cruise in my Sy again. Do you sport the stock turbo?

Whats the part number on those lifters.
And if you don't mind...how much have you invested in all the parts above?

Thanks.

falco yeah im still runnning the stock turbo but as soon as i break the engine in im gonna upgrade turbo, and add ultimate

i took it to get it smogged and it passed (i was surprised) yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mikerenz part number for lifters SEALED POWER HT-2148 $7.59 each
and i spent roughly $3500 on parts including block prepping and head porting parts alone about 2200.... all rest of labor was done myself which i saved about $1500 or more.

see ya

Are you sure your using a high pressure oil pump? Everything I know says not to use a high pressure pump with hydraulic lifters? Could you post the part number for the pump your using?

sealed power SLP-224-4143
i left the same spring i had the option to leave it high pressure or change the spring to low pressure i left it high pressure...... why shouldnt u use high pressure with hydraulic lifters???

thanks

Becuase it will pump up your lifters and float the valves at high RPMs. But I guess you're not having that problem so I guess it worked out ok for you.

thanks for the info... im still breaking the engine in.. what is the RPM that the valves can float.....

thanks again

Well, you'll know when they do it. I can't really say what RPM the lifters will pump up at and lift the valve off the seat, I just know that it is not recomended to use high pressure with hyd lifters. How much oil pressure are you running?

well the dash guage shows 60psi when accelerating stays there much of the way... hope i'll be ok damnnnnnnn

What I'd like to know is with the oil hot what is your oil psi for 1000, 2000, 3000...etc RPM.

sytydvr

when hot oil pressure is 40psi at idle 1000rpm once i get it to 2000 +rpm is goes to 60psi and stays there i havent revved it over 3000

2cold

Well, that seems a little high for 2,000 RPMs but 60psi isn't enough to cause the problem and the motor is new so the pressure is going to be pretty healthy anyway, I wouldn't worry about that. When you decide to rev it higher let us know what your mechanical oil pressure guage reads. I've built a few engines but I think you should talk to someone who is an expert on these engines, becuase the way I see it if you don't have enough clearance between the piston and the valve, when the lifter pumps up and lifts that valve off the seat enough it could contact the piston. Usually it just floats the valves and the engine runs like shit or stalls. Better safe than sorry and I'd like to see if there is a second opinion out there about your situation.

2cold

Also, you say you haven't revved past 3,000 rpms? So did you rev it to 3,000? and if you did what did your mechanical oil pressure guage read then?

sytydvr

New member
the oil pressure stays at 60psi even at 3000rpm..... hey 2cold thanks for the info..... anyone out there have a second opinion on this... or have that similar setup...
thanks
