Feeling real stupid (RPM lines)

If you were going to add a trans cooler why do you need 3 lines? Wouldn't you just need the one? I get bigger lines, better flow/fittings. Not meant to knock this product what so ever. I'm just really stupid and need someone to break this down for me in elementary format.

I understand why not replace better lines here while you're at it but that means smaller line goes from the factory trans cooler to whatever B&M cooler you're adding? Do I dare ask if anyone just customizes the one line to go to their additional cooler? :/

I guess the reason I ask is because A) I'm looking for a trans cooler and B) I just replaced one of the 2 factory trans lines due to a hairline crack that was resulting in a drip over the crossover pipe.

Sounds like a lot of guys run this kit. I'd like to as well if I can understand it.

Always remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid people...the way that system is setup so that your still using the factory subcooler and the factory cooler for the trans fluid.ill grab some pictures in the next day and send them to you. There might even be directions on their site also.

And to clarify what I meant here (before I get flamed) is the mental image of the way the lines run is still in my head which is probably why I don't understand where the 3rd one comes into play.

I haven't bought the lines yet. Just wondering how the lines run if you're running another trans cooler. Or just replacing the factory cooler if that's what guys are doing.

The third line is to connect the trans cooler in your rad to the trans cooler you install, so there both looped together.

I guess what I'm wondering is how guys run BOTH the factory trans cooler along with the B&M.

In that photo they are using the B&M as a replacement...right?

I run the factory one with the B&M, the third line which is short connects the two together but you need the elbow fitting to make it work cause its kind of tight.

That makes more sense. Is there enough room to squeeze the 2nd cooler behind the grill or did you locate elsewhere?

No. In the RPM instructions the B&M is being used in addition to the factory cooler. Cut and paste of the instructions below. See highlights.

700R-4 Transmission Cooler Lines

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

On the 700R4 the bottom fitting on the right side of the
transmission is the "out" line to the cooler and the top fitting
is for the return line from the cooler.
Our kit is composed of 3 lines:
(A) 46” Long with 45deg ends
(B) 56” Long with 45deg and straight end
(C) 7.5” Long with 90deg and straight end

Hose (A) connects the out line on the transmission to the inlet
fitting on the stock radiator (bottom fitting).

Hose (C)connects the outlet of the stock radiator (top fitting) to the top
of the B&M Auxiliary cooler.

Hose (B) then connects the bottom of the auxiliary cooler to the top fitting on the transmission.

* Note: The bottom line can be routed through the stock core
support hole, and the top line will likely need a new hole or
enlarged hole depending on the location of the auxiliary cooler.
If the A/C has been removed the lines can be run on the engine
side of the core support.

I get it but the picture shows the B&M exactly where my existing cooler sits. So if that's not a replacement cooler, where the hell is his factory cooler? Lol cause that's exactly where my factory cooler sits.

I just started to think that as I typed my last reply.

It's super small and looks factory. The previous owner definitely wasn't known for his "tidiness" but the plumbing looks really good to the point I just assumed it was what all factory coolers looked like. No wonder I was confused.

I still think I need a bigger one.

Re: Feeling real stupid (RPM lines)

It's just a guess but are you talking about the power steering cooler on the left side of the rad? From what I remember ty's had ps coolers from the factory, they were on the small side too. If you follow the 2 trans lines on the right side of the radiator where do they go? If they are steel and go to the trans there is just the factory cooler, if one of them goes to the cooler in front of the radiator you already have an aftermarket trans cooler.

Hopefully that helps ya a little 😀

The factory cooler is located in the radiator itself on the passengerside...your b&m cooler get put onto the front side of your factory cooler via push through lock straps that go thru the radiator fins and get locked in place.if you buy the lines and the cooler let me know!
