Factory block???

I have a question, I searched and came up with some answers, but not all. I'd like to find a used short block to re-build, so I can still drive my truck while I build this motor. Then one day I can just do the swap. I daily drive my truck and am trying to avoid down time. I know the Pistons in our motors are different for the low compression. That's not a problem, because I'm planning on new pistons and a bored block, if required by the machine shop. But I read that our main caps are different? Does this mean I need to find a specific motor from a SYTY to build? I'm sure that isn't going to be easy to locate. Thank you for any advice!

Re: Factory block???

Hey Randy,

The main caps on the SyTy motors are made from nodular iron and are stronger than the standard 4.3 main caps. Don't let that be a deal breaker and depending upon your build, you may be wanting to upgrade the center two main caps to four bolt splayed caps..

What's your goal with the build? HP, use, etc???

See ya,

Re: Factory block???

I'm looking for a stock type build, my goal is a low 13, high 12 second truck with stock motor and turbo with the usual fuel pump, fuel regulator, chip tune, exhaust, etc mods. I want to daily drive it, nothing crazy.

Re: Factory block???

I've got a 92 4.3 block with heads that I'm trying to sell.. Its not syty specific but you would be swapping out the pistons anyway. As for the main caps if you are only looking for low 13s I'm sure the stockers would be just fine. The good part about the block I have is that I know the history. It came from my blazer that I did a 350 swap in many years ago.. The block is standard bore and has never been touched. Its a factory roller block with a 1 peice rear main and no balance shaft. It ran fine when pulled but has been sitting on a stand for probably 13 years now. Let me know if you are interested. I'm asking $100 and can bring it to Carlisle if you are going..

Hi Matt, thank you for the reply! I'm very interested in that motor, that would be great. But i think the distance between us is going to be an expensive problem. I'm not going to Carlisle, and am out on the eastern end of Long Island. I wonder how much shipping would be? Thanks again,

Randy
