I liked doing mine. It does feel good. You can't hear that loud stock clutch fan anymore. Feels like the motor revs up a little quicker too.

I ripped out the twin SPALs that were in my Ty and went back to stock. Damn things drew 30 amps each. Bigtime power sucker.
Though, it was cool to hold up a dollar bill in front of the grille, let go and watch it get sucked flat onto it and sit there.
Mine were wired on a switch so I could turn either 1 on at a time, both, or none.

when we swapped a ford tarus fan into my previous mustang.. it gave something like 3hp from what we could figure on the dyno.. we did do other mods at the time so it's not an exact figure
Im currently in the middle of throwing one of the 3000cfm volvo fans into my sy not to gain hp but just to gain more room under the hood.. and possibly use a pound or two even though this fan is like 11 lbs

I added one... don't like clutch fans for the noise they make, and I wanted a little more room up front there. Plus, my truck sounds like some kind of jet fighter when you shut it down and the fan and turbo are slowing down :rotf:

initially had a flexalite VSC controller on it, POS died on me a week after I installed it. Now I have a 30 amp relay on there with a GM temp sensor in the switching ground circuit, triggers the fan when it heats up to 165 or so. shuts down on the highway. Thus far it's been my most reliable setup for fan power.

I honestly haven't noticed much of a voltage drop with the fan on, but at the same time my gauge also drops 4 volts with the blinkers so who knows :dunno: . That's a stock radiator with some AN adapters installed on the trans side

What other things do I have to buy besides the fan to complete the installation? This may seem a little "shadetree" but arent electric fans scary.....if they stop working --- OVERHEAT!!! Thanks ---

Do a search.. or look around there's a few volvo fan or efan threads that have popped up in the last two weeks or so.. you can wire up the fan a few dif ways.. one would be to use the wiring to your ic pump, use a electric controller with thermo, wire up your own toggle switch or wire it to run 24/7 with a relay and possibly a toggle switch etc.. it all depends on what you want and what your willing to do.

few years back i considered electrics for my red truck and did alot of research,red alot on the s-10 forum and other sights like superchargerson,the pa fourm(lot of s/c freaks over there),ect...also found an old Carcraft mag.in my PILES of mags.that did an engine dyno test with a motor making 500hp. they swapped all these diff.clutches to the fans...rpm activated,heat activated,non-clutch...the most gain,or rather least amount of hp loss came down to the extreme(or severe) duty thermal clutch that lost only 5-7 hp. where as some of the rpm activated and non-clutch(like the flex-a-lite solid blade) ones sucked up like 22+hp!
in the end i passed on electric and put an 'extreme duty' thermal clutch on a stock fan. i just put one in the ty too, cause the ac was failing at low rpms(idling in traffic)... all the oil leaked out of the viscous..no lock up.
yes,the clutch fan is alittle noisey,but very effecient.
soo i guess by those results,you could pick up 5-7 hp by swapping to an electric set up,perhaps a few more with an elec.waterpump set up....for me,dollars to hp, i dident feel it was worth it. at the time the s-10 elec. flex-a-lite set up was near 400 bucks. alot moe options nowadays tho.
