eagle/forged rod questions

My typhoon has eagle rods with ARP studs. The bottom of the oil pan had what I thought were indentations from rods letting go and bashing out the indentations.

The ARP hardware actually made the indentations and wore through the pan causing a leak.

What needs to be done to fix this? I remember seeing something about notching/clearances but I really am not sure.

I searched and could not find a photo of what needs to be done but read that it requires something..

The stock pan needs some massaging for clearance

You have to beat indentions in the bottom of your pan so the rod bolts won't hit it. The notching comes in when you install the rods and is needed to clear the block itself.

I got another pan and don't want to fuc it up.

Its like a one shot deal. I only have 1 spare pan to do this with.

Should I get the leather bag and hammer out and English wheel it or what?

I have 4 marks at the front/shallow part of the pan. Wore through paper thin like tin foil. I'm suprized whoever put this together did not know??

I just used a socket extension and a hammer to ding my pan. Keep dinging it until the rods clear the pan bottom with no gasket on the pan. Once you reinstall the pan with the gasket, you should have no problems. You can lightly install the pan to start with, then rotate the engine over a few times to leave rub marks to tell you where you need to ding the pan.

What Randy said works. I put the pan in my lap and beat on it with a big rubber hammer. Re-install with no gasket and look for marks. Rub grease inside, or whatever you need to do to see where the rods are hitting. When you have clearance that way, you'll have a little extra clearance for safety factor after installing the gasket.

Old one = real bad.

New one.. Might have it close...last pic I have the pan looking pregnant. Its bellied out. Just got done hitting it with my sand bag and metal forming hammer. Measures 4 inches from flange surface. Old divits are 3.85 inces I hope I'm good.

is there an aftermarket oil pan option or is pooching out the stock pan the way to go ?
