I left the hotel this morning around 9:00. I got on the highway and headed for home. I hit I-96 westbound and continued my 60-65MPH speeds...until about WIXOM.
Around there, I see in my rear-view mirror a nice blue Corvette. It has a slit in the hood, and I watched eagerly as it approached on my left. As he got closer, I started to match his pace a little more (70-75). I was admiring his car...a new ZR-1. The side slits..the exhaust..the lines were very nice! I let him get ahead a little more to verify its a ZR-1 and notice his plates 'PENSKE'. I come up even with him again and I keep looking the car over. I see the driver (an older guy) look at me, fiddle with the steering wheel for a sec, and he hits it hard. Just as I realized what he did, I nail it. It took about a little more than a second to hit 24# of boost (I still had the race tune loaded). He enjoyed his head start for about another second before I started to pull past him up to about 130MPH where I let out. By then, he was deep in my rear-view. I tap the brakes, coast back down to 75, and he pulls up close. He gives me two thumbs up, waves, I wave back, thanking him for the chance. I slow my pace back down to 65, and he eases ahead of me into my lane.
It took about 10 minutes for the butterflies to cease. I stopped in Brighton, refueled, and got a cup of coffee to settle back down.
I wonder why my fuel economy is so bad in this thing?
