Dragstrip Burn Out Question

I am a new Syclone owner (just purchased it this winter) and I will be taking it to the dragstrip once this year and was wondering...............Do you just drive around the water box or do you go through it and do like a mini launch (or wil that not work)? Syclone is stock.
I will be using 4 drag radials mounted on my old 1998 Z28 wheels (255-50-16).

Thanks, Clint

Re: Dragstrip Burn Out Question

I go around the water box. I know some that do burn outs, but I suspect that it increases the likely hood of breaking parts.

I allways go thru the water box. lol broken parts? who me? Nope. seriously didnt break much.
Honestly doing or not doing a burnout isnt what breaks stuff on these trucks. Its when you hook spin hook spin that causes stuff to break. So do a burnout and make em hook!

Re: Dragstrip Burn Out Question

If it stock go around the box, what is the point your AWD and 300 h.p. your gonna grip and go. Plus unless you pull the front shaft i wouldnt do a burn out, and to add insult to injury if you go through the box and you dont roast them you carry water down the track which is bad for the next guy up!!! TRUST ME:rotf:

And just something to think about, if you have street tires that have a tread on it. It doesnt mater how long you do a burn out in a water box to heat them up real good. As soon as you roll forward all the water that was picked up by the tread is now dripping off the wheel well back on top of the tire.

That is also why a spotter is used most of the time, to make sure the tire isnt in the water. But just past it. Do not do a burn out in the water box, you will just bring the water to the line.

Your also going to add some heat to the system, building boost/stalling the trany, just to stop and do it again.

Re: Dragstrip Burn Out Question

Most stock or mildly modified trucks do not need to do a burn out. If you are make decent power 350whp+ then you will need to turn the tires over just to get the trash off or water off. Others with drag radials need to get heat into them for them to stick and get traction.

It just depends on the power level and type of tires and suspension set up on how much to trun the tires of or not at all.
