Cladding color opinions

Truck is going to be receiving a new paint job soon. Do you guys think I should keep the cladding factory color or do some off shade silver or a darker grey? Keep in mind the Ty is teal. Also open to paint brand reccomendations etc. Thanks.

ok, my first question is, are you keeping it teal? I know its not everyones cup of tea, which is why I asked.

If you are keeping the teal, may I suggest seeing if the paintshop can actually mix the same color but as a metallic? I think that would look sharp. I also recommend going with a 2 stage paint instead of the stock type single stage urethane.

As far as cladding, I definately wouldnt go lighter, I think the stock color or a slightly darker cladding on a color like teal is good, helps it pop out a little. If your not worried about "originality" may I also suggest painting the center grill section and the headlight insert section to match the cladding? That would really help tie the colors together.

Just please dont paint the mirrors :(

Last but not least, paint brand is probably going to be something to discuss with your painter/shop. Lots of times they only deal with certain brands or some painters are only comfortable painting with certain brands. Your best bet is to find out what they are using, stress the fact that you dont want crap paint and maybe post back here if you're still unsure.

Goodluck man, dont forget to take alot of before and after pictures.

Yes, the truck will remain teal. That sounds like an interesting idea with the metallic. I'm definitely leaning towards the 2 stage base/clear.

I've seen alot of people repaint their cladding silver but I was thinking of a darker shade, like the dark grey painted mouldings on the new explorers. Now would that look better with metallic paint on the cladding or just the body?

I agree about the mirrors. However, I was actually thinking of doing the grill all teal, not a big concern right now. Aren't the inserts the same color as the cladding from the factory? I know the grills were just left black. As for the painter, I or a friend of my dad will be shooting the paint. I also know a guy who works in the body shop of a ford dealer. I was going to buy the paint now so I could use the rest of my budget to finish the other things i want to do.

I would do them both metallic. The teal is such a light color, its not going to look overdone, it will just give it an extra kick i think, plus it all depends on how much metallic they add.

When I first saw a teal ty, I thought it was nasty. But it definitely grew on me, and I've noticed that my ty looks darker in person as opposed to what internet pictures show. Plus its different. :D

you can't just add metallic flakes into a color like that. metallic flakes are mixed with transparent pigments, so that the flakes can reflect light. the teal is to opaque (milky). IMO pick a pearl, or metallic teal color that is similar, or that you like, and paint the truck all the same color. Good luck!!

Why couldn't a paint store mix an identicak teal but metallic. The ty will remain teal with some sort of grey cladding.

On our Ty the inserts around the headlights were the same color as the cladding. We painted our cladding a lighter shade of silver. It could kinda give you an idea what yours will look like. If you want a good pic of it let me know and ill email one to you.

Joe, thanks for the pic. Thats a good lookin ty. I just don't think the silver like you did on your ty would look good with TEAL. It's time to visit the paint store now.

Hey, it did help. I got a new wallpaper  I think the teal needs a darker shade on the bottom though, then a set of color matched ZR1's to match.

Did you paint just the cladding or the entire truck? What kind of paint did you use, single stage? how much did the paint cost. Thanks.

Its your wallpaper.....cool!! Ill tell my wife...its her baby. I want to put ZR1's on it bad but we bought the ty for her and she dont like them. About the paint....The entire Ty had been repainted by the first owner. I just repainted the cladding and the left door and quarter. It had a big ugly dent below the door handle when we bought it and we had to blend the paint on to the quarter. I removed all of the cladding. I didnt really have a place to paint it so i took it to a guy i know and he sprayed it. We used BASF Diamont base/clear on it. We just mixed enough paint to paint the cladding. I dont remember the cost...my memory sucks.lol
