Civic Si, WTF!

Well I was on my way home from getting a bite to eat at Sonics w/ my girl. We were cruising the freeway and a 00 civic si comes rolling up on me. Looks clean, not the tipical stickered out honda. I take a quick look, exhaust and some gauges on the pillar. The driver is a younger kid (i cant talk, i am only 23). So I have the ultimate set at T1-16 and just got done installing the walbro earlier in the day. So we are side by side at about 65 mph, I hear him down shift and then I punched it. I get up to about 110 and he is a good 7 cars behind me. My girl is sitting there busting a gut at this kid for even trying. So I start slowing down and he catches up to me and is on my tail. I get to about 75 and I hear him down shift again and switches lanes. As soon as he got in the other lane and punched it again for the hell of it. Well this time it was diff. He started to pull on me hard! He got 2 cars on me. Well around 100 mph I started to slowly reel him in but we had to slow down b/c of upcoming traffic. My girl looks at me and was like wtf! Not sure what happen that time. I know it was not my truck b/c it felt good other than seeing him pull on me. Oh well shit happens.

Turn up the boost to 18psi (assuming your engine tune can take it) and use your brake to build boost before you race.

I'm sure he knows how to launch :) He went from a roll. Only thing you can do then is find the right speed and drop it down into 2nd. get those rpm's up high for quick boostage :p

I hate those little P'sOS! They all have to have all this crap and a ton of money invested in them just to keep up real sport cars and trucks! TRASH... F* um....

Did it sound turbo?

If so he may have turned the boost up on ya.

If not he probably sprayed a 50 shot maybe even 70 shot.

You would be surprised how hard a bolt on Si will pull at the top end with only a 50 shot.

next time race him from a stop.

It was a NOS guy...

It was a NOS guy...

Had a similar thing happen to me, I was on the highway, guy came up and then down shifted, heard the rpms go up, so I mashed the brake, built boost at 60mph and hit it on T1-16, pulled him hard until about 90-100 mph, then he came on hard, looked in the rear view and saw that he was blowing a LOT of dark exhaust from the tailpipe, he was smoking everyone out. He could not pass me until 100-105 but with the aerodynamics of a potato chip, I really didn't care.

So I have to hit my exit, and he pulls off with me, then pulls up, I roll down the window and said "runs good on the highway", want to run from a stop? He asks what do I usually run, I answer honestly, 13.04 in the quarter, he looks at me and states "No way, you will kill me" I rely on the NOS to get my "roll on" punch.

I said "well use it off the line", he was too smart for that, but gave props and decided we each had our own race, plus I gave hime a run for his money in his arena with NOS, he just wasn't ready to return the favor.

Oh well I considered it a "win" based on the low boost and two popped vacuum lines I discovered the next day, wondered why the idle when to S_it.

Sincerely,
Steve.

Owning a Honda Civic Si, I must protest.

Fact is, everyone is interested in different things. I just happen to use my Si as my daily driver and my Sy as the drag strip barbarian. Until I had my Sy's motor rebuilt this past winter, my Si was at the dragstrip as a poor replacement.

Having an '03 Si with the Greddy Turbo kit, it runs good....from a roll. Not having a limited slip really kills the car. I have only drag raced the car once with the turbo and it did okay. I wasn't expecting much but it was decent for the mods. The car supposively runs 16 flat @ 87 MPH from car magazines and that is what my GTECH told me as well.

I enjoy driving the car, pure fun especially with the turbo. I think it is a common misconception about spending tons of money to make a car go fast. It boils down to the fact that everyone does there own thing. If someone is into cars or anything that is powered by a motor of some sort is cool by me. It really doesn't matter to me what the exterior of the vehicle looks like. Enthusiasts all have a common ground. Many import guys talk to me about my Sy at the strip and I answer all the questions and I talk to them about their rides. It can be fun, and often times leads into some interesting races! They always learn though! Just my thoughts on the subject.
