Can't Get Turbo Bolt Off

I'm trying to remove the stock turbo for a upgrade and can't get the top left nut off that holds the turbo to the exhaust manifold. I have a short 15mm and a long 15mm wrench but still cant get to it. I can get the wrenches on but can't turn them . The wrenches are either hitting the shock tower, or the frame. No room to turn them ,
Do I need to remove the upper intercooler and go in from the top behind the down pipe or maybe remove the a/c and go in from the front. Any advice would be appreciated.

i did mine with the open end of the wrench, but i also had the top end off the motor, so i had enough room to get the wrench in there. but yea, the closed end of the wrench wont fit, and sockets are too long. good luck.

I did mine with everything in place, using an open end wrench.. I had to work on it between the block and the downpipe.

I have never done this, but I have ratchet wrenches they work good for tight spaces. Maybe that will work for you.

I had the fender well out before I started this post and removed three of the bolts. Today when I came home from work, I removed the upper intercooler and got the last one off. I used a long boxed end wrench and went between the turbo and the valve cover. Next is to box it up and send it to be upgraded to a 20g.

Good job! I'm thinking of doing the same since the Ty got hungry for plastic last year... :)

What are you going to use as a seal between the downpipe and turbo when you put it back on?

No gasket between turbo and downpipe.

Re: Can't Get Turbo Bolt Off

Just took my turbo off tonight due to a bad seal. I removed that with an open end 15mm from the wheel well also. Good luck

No gasket needed. I just got a call yesterday from Tim's Turbo in Virginia. He's the one who is upgrading my stock turbo. It's will be capable of about 450hp and still have the stock appearance. Its like the 20g but will have no lag with a stock converter. Tim used to own a Typhoon and knows all bout our trucks. Can't wait to get it back and installed. Hopefully I'll have it back and installed by the early part of next week.

I just used Permatex Ultra Copper RTV on the turbo to downpipe and it worked well.
